Video review of At Work by Annie Leibovitz

Here’s my review of At Work by photographer Annie Leibovitz. It’s half memoir, half photography book. She describes her career from a young snapper on Rolling Stone magazine to become one of the world’s most prestigious photographers. Lots of great photos of Hunter S. Thompson, John Lennon and Yoko Ono, Demi Moore, Whoopi Goldberg, the Blues Brothers, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Mikhail Baryshnikov, William S. Burroughs, Kate Moss and Queen Elizabeth II.

Life After Death: Literature Published Posthumously

An author’s death rarely means the end of original works from them – The Pale King by David Foster Wallace is the latest and greatest example.

A dusty, forgotten manuscript found in a cardboard box soon becomes a bestseller. Sometimes the author’s talent goes unrecognized and success comes after their death. This broad selection – ranging from Agatha Christie to Dorothy L. Sayers – covers literature published posthumously. Learn more.

Daily literary trivia questions

QuizIf you are a big fan of trivia questions then please visit our Facebook fan page. Monday to Friday we post a literary brainteaser on our wall. For instance, this morning’s question asks you to identify the book that features this little animal on its cover. Somebody got it in about three minutes…much to my chagrin.

I’m asking the quiz questions and frankly I’m becoming slightly obsessive about trying to ask questions that no-one can answer. I’ve only beaten our Facebook fans once and that was with a cryptic question about Jeffrey Archer that took me an hour to write. I keep posting questions that I think are pretty tough but people are getting them in seconds. Basically, it’s me against several thousand people, and I’m going to beat them if it’s the last thing I do (evil laugh).

Memorable Art Noveau books

la-flore-alpine-correvonThe book world fell in love with the Art Nouveau movement just like everyone else. At the conclusion of the 19th century, book designers began incorporating spirals and flourishes, lines and loops, flowers and plants, and tall beautiful ladies into their work.

These graceful curves contrasted to the angles and edges of Art Deco (and we like Art Deco too). This selection of remarkable Art Nouveau-style books showcases a design era when elegance ruled the roost. Enjoy.
