Product Description Garrison Keillor joins German opera superstar Frederica Von Stade and noted conductor Philip Brunelle for this studio recording. These sixteen songs in praise of felines include "My Grandmother's Cat," "The In and Out Song," "Cat O Cat Come Home" as well as tunes from the more cat-loving classical composers. An enchanting recording on a very popular subject. Includes printed copy of Garrison Keillor's lyrics. Includes: The Cat Came Back; The Hallelujah Patrol; The Mystery; The Cats of Cash; Dance To My Cats; Eine Kleine Kat; In Memory of Our Cat, Ralph; Alaska Cats; Beethoven Chased by Rossini; Near Death: Or, The Search Rewarded; Oy, Chuck and Katie; Forty Miles; The Rescue Cat; My Grandmother's Cat; As I Walked Out; Cats May Safely Sleep; Guilt and Shame; Out in the Catskill Mountains; Cat, You Better Come Home; The In and Out Song.

A little disappointing, but... January 4, 2009 Space Queen (Mustang, OK) I was really excited when I read about this CD and ordered it, along with another CD about cats: Whiskers in the Jar ([...]) Had I listened to Songs of the Cat first, I probably would have enjoyed it more. But I listened to Whiskers in the Jar first. If you like Garrison Kiellor, you'll love this CD. If you like operatic/art songs, you'll like this CD. If you like cats, you'll probably like this CD. I would have to say, though, that I recommend Whiskers in the Jar over Songs of the Cat as being great music (celtic) with great lyrics about cats. It's probably a matter of preferences, though.
cats are us June 10, 2008 brendon kelson This recording is just sheer joy. It is very clever and full of gentle humour. It has some amusing observations about cat behaviour and should be enjoyed by all and sundry, including non-cat lovers. It sits with my classical collection.
Keillor is a pessimist January 19, 2008 B. Mihalka (APO, AE United States) G. Keillor has once again proven, in the style of his 'Book of Guys', that American pessimism is alive and well. I liked some of the songs, but too many were inherently sad. I hate sentimental portrayals of cats, but more texts inspired by admiration for cats would have been welcome.
Great Cd June 15, 2007 Marlene M. Norton (South Carolina) If you like Garrison Keillor, you'll like this CD. If you like cats, you'll like this CD If you like Garrison Keillor AND cats, you gotta have this CD.
"Songs of the Cat" Is a Lot of Fun! May 14, 2007 M. J. Amundson (Newport, OR) This CD is a great tongue-in-cheek re-write of some famous and not-so-famous music, from classical to western and lots in between. The word plays and send-ups are hilarious, with excellent orchestration and voices. von Strade obviously enjoyed herself, and Keillor evinced his usual sincere not-so-straightforward persona. It may not be great music, but it's great fun for folks who love their cats (or other people's) but don't take them too seriously.
