    Product Description

From the world-class garden of acclaimed food writer Amy Goldman, a gorgeously illustrated guide to the world’s most beautiful and delicious tomatoes.

Every year, renowned grower Amy Goldman produces an amazing 500 varieties of tomatoes on her farm in New York’s Hudson Valley. Here, in 250 gorgeous photos and Goldman’s erudite, charming prose, is the cream of the crop, from glorious heirloom beefsteaks – that delicious tomato you had as a kid but can’t seem to find anymore – to exotica like the currant tomato, a pea-sized fruit with a surprisingly big flavor. Along with the photos are profiles of the tomatoes, filled with fascinating facts on their history and provenance; a section of more than 50 delicious recipes; and a master gardener’s guide to growing your own. More than just a loving look at one of the world's great edibles, this is a philosophy of eating and conservation between covers — an irresistible book for anyone who loves to garden or loves to eat.

5 out of 5 stars Tomato Lover   January 6, 2009

This Heirloom Tomato book is perfect for anyone who loves tomatoes. I bought it for a friend for Christmas who does. She loved it. The photographs are so beautiful and tantalizing. Makes your mouth water just looking at them. So it would be a nice coffee table book. But for the true tomato lover, it has the history of many heirloom varieties, planting seasons, etc. if you're interested in cultivating from seeds. It has lists of resources and great recipes in the last half of the book. Wonderfully done.

I'm not even sure why I purchased this book, as I'm not particularly interested in heirloom tomatoes. But, it is a BEAUTIFUL book you'll be proud to own. The photography is gorgeous and if you weren't interested in heirloom tomatoes before you certainly will be after you've seen this book. I haven't tried any of the recipes yet, but they look quite appealing.

Awesome! I had no idea that tomatoes were so interesting. I originally read about this book in the Washington Post and ordered it for my mom-- I didn't expect to become so fascinated with it myself! Not only does this book describe approximately one million different kinds of tomatoes, but it also has a guide for where to purchase seeds, so you can grow the ones that seem most interesting to you. Recipes are included along with a detailed description of the tomato.

Finally, the pictures are AMAZING. The photography is just beautiful, and that's what really sold me on the book. Each frame is a work of art, truly. If you're on the fence about it, go ahead and get it-- it was money well spent.

I haven't read this book - it's a Christmas gift for a tomato lover! But the photography is AMAZING! It also seems fairly informative. I just might have to buy a copy for myself!
