What a GEM! January 1, 2009 Wanda Anderson (Tennessee) I received this cookbook yesterday and started flipping through it and then actually sat down and READ it -- cover to cover! Probably the best cookbook I've found. I love cooking, but as an amateur, I'm sometimes intimidated by the recipe titles, ingredients and directions for fix something. These delicious sounding recipes are concise, easy to follow and the GROCERY LIST! What can I say -- look at a glance and see what you do or don't have and make a quick list for several tasty treats at a time. Now, I live in an EXTREMELY rural area. And as I said, being an amateur, there are several items I've not heard of nor do I have any idea as to where to look for them in the store, or if I'll even be able to find them. HAHA -- but -- that'll be part of my education with this lovely book. Thanks Rocco for bring good recipe ideas to the back country!
Book is good, but the reviews .... December 18, 2008 Julie S.C.Y, I have three of Rocco's cookbooks and all are very good. But the reviews of it here (so far, all 5 stars) are odd. Most of them sound the same, and have exactly the same "voice" while giving the message "I was a busy (blank)...I couldn't cook well...and then I found this book which solved my problems". There were 6 of the 8 reviews that had only ONE review here at Amazon--the one for this book. Added to the fact, that all of those sound so much the same--well....just strange....
More resources for me... December 3, 2008 Cynthia Suchowacki (New Jersey) Another fabulous cook book, fast and easy, being a single mom and mother of 2 teenagers, and working alot. I need to be creative to keep them away from all the fast foods, this book adds to my collection.I can save a life during my ''Job'' as a registered nurse but I kill alot of meals. These books have everything you need,to help you make a meal, simple explainations, lists, pics...you cant go wrong. Thanks Rocco, you are not only a sweet person but you make our lives alittle easier with all your help.Check out his show you can see him cook step by step, Im visual so this really helps, on A and E Sat at 1030am EST.Good luck with all the books and show, you deserve it!!! Confessions of a Cooking Illiterate November 27, 2008 Cathy (Miami, FL United States) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Ask me to translate Latin prose or recite Chaucer in the original Middle English, and I do just fine. Put me in a kitchen, faced with the prospect of preparing a meal, and I hyperventilate. After 30 years of enjoying a large variety of dishes cooked to perfection by my husband, I remain a cooking illiterate. A friend, aware of my disability, presented me with a copy of Rocco's book. What a revelation! The foreign language of cooking finally made sense. Rocco, a sophisticated and accomplished chef, has managed to communicate a complex process in simple terms. Handy shopping lists are provided, and the utensils for each recipe even appear in drawings! Cooking mistakes are forgiven - Rocco provides troubleshooting advice in case the outcome needs repairs. In the past, I have never had success with cookbooks. The pictures always looked delicious, but after following the instructions precisely, I would usually wind up throwing away the inedible result. No more -- this book is so user-friendly that it calms the panic and positions the novice cook for success. These are adult recipes, though, not the kind geared for children. Try the stuffed artichokes - my first success and a pleasure to eat with the other grownups. I won't let my husband hang up his apron yet, but I have to say, "Thank you, Rocco, for luring me into the kitchen!"
Bravo Rocco! Ciao to your chow! November 17, 2008 Suzanne Kort (bridgehampton ny) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
Rocco gave me 'real' help! This is Rocco's best cookbook. My girlfriends and I collect them all. Some really terrific short cuts and tips in here that will make anyone a better cook. Now if he would just make housecalls! Until then my friends and I will have to settle for his new A and E show! "Rocco Gets Real" on Saturday mornings is a DVR staple in my diet! Thanks Rocco!
