    Album Description
Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel is packaged in a beautiful 3-panel softpack. A must-have for all Mariah fans, it will include: - The CD - A 2nd Enhanced CD featuring the "Obsessed" video, a remix video, and 3 remixes

    - a 36 page Elle mini-magazine that's an inside look at Mariah.

First came the emancipation, then came energy and power, and now come Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel, the new album by international superstar Mariah Carey, scheduled to arrive on September 29th. The first new single pick from Memoirs is "Obsessed,". The video for "Obsessed" is directed by Brett Ratner. "Obsessed" was written and produced by Mariah, The-Dream and Tricky Stewart, who are responsible for the majority of tracks on the new album. Memoirs was executive-produced by Antonio "L.A." Reid. Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel, the 12th studio album of Mariah's career, is the eagerly anticipated follow-up to her RIAA platinum-selling album E=MC² (released April 15, 2008), and her worldwide 10 million selling The Emancipation Of Mimi (released April 12, 2005). Both were Soundscan #1 debut albums that made chart history for Mariah in the U.S. and numerous territories around the globe.

The Emancipation Of Mimi generated three Grammy awards (including Best Contemporary R&B Album), two #1 singles, and countless more honors during its 18-month chart stay. The album debuted at #1 on first week sales of 404,000 copies, Mariah's highest first week sales total (until E=MC²;). Soundscan's biggest-selling album of 2005, Mimi featured "We Belong Together" (Grammy winner for Best Female R&B Vocal and Best R&B Song) and "Don't Forget About Us," Mariah's 16th and 17th #1 career singles respectively. They tied one of the most enduring chart records in Billboard Hot 100 history, Elvis Presley's 17 #1's.

Three years later, E=MC²; debuted at #1 on first week sales of 463,000 copies, which now stands as the highest first week sales total of Mariah's career. The album's success brought total sales of Mariah's albums, singles and videos to more than 160 million worldwide, distancing her even further from the pack as the top-selling female recording artist in history.

E=MC² spun off four singles: "Touch My Body," "Bye Bye," "I'll Be Lovin' U Long Time," and "I Stay In Love." Of these, "Touch My Body" made history when it became Mariah's 18th #1 Hot 100 hit, thus surpassing Elvis Presley. "Touch My Body"'s two weeks at the top also marked Mariah's 78th and 79th cumulative career weeks at #1, which tied Elvis' long-standing all-time high of 79 weeks at #1, as calculated in Billboard.com. At the same time, Mariah is now positioned as the only active recording artist in the 50 years of the Hot 100 (which began in 1958) with the potential to surpass the Beatles' all-time high of 20 #1 hits.

5 out of 5 stars Don't sleep on "Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel"! Mariah's just changing up the game!   February 4, 2010

Many people have overlooked and dismissed Mariah's latest gem for various reasons. You may roll your eyes at the gratuitous boob shots, too-tight, too-little outfits that scream cheap desperation. And you probably wince at the cheesy, unimaginative, overdone videos that play like a skinemax movie. Or maybe you think she's just too into herself. And with her shift from pop to mostly R&B with the highly successful Emancipation of Mimi album, you may long for innocent, curly-haired, jeans & t-shirt Mariah. But all hating aside, the woman can SANG. She also writes a mean song, which sometimes can get lost in the delivery. As she gets older(and maturer) her music should evolve to reflect the changes in her life, while still maintaining its relevance in popular culture. With this new album I feel she has done just that.

Her latest album, "Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel" is an almost perfect addition to her historic and impressive discography. From beginning to end, this album plays like a story that cannot be fully appreciated by just a chapter here and there taken out of its context. It's like reluctantly taking a really frightening roller coaster ride that is scary at first, but you wind up going back for more time after time. I can't get enough!

She experiments successfully with unfamiliar sounds thanks to The Dream & Tricky. At first I listened with trepidation to see how their influence would meld with her style, but quickly realized that their collaboration was ingenious. My favorite track right now is "Up Out My Face." I love the marching band sound & rhythm and the clever, ghetto-sass of the lyrics. "When I break, I break, boy...and no superglue can fix it." You can't sing along to this song without rolling your neck and assuming the attitude of being past the point of no return in a relationship. "It's a Wrap" follows this same theme, only in a more classic, shoo-be-do-wop smooth fashion. Still more excellent writing, though: "put on your shoes in the elevator, it's going down like a denominator." Nice.

"Obsessed", even with all the airplay overkill is still a must-not-skip. The smart and playful lyrics over the infectious melody and beat make it irresistible. "Got you all fired up with your Napoleon Complex, see right through you like you're bathing in Windex..." has got to be the smartest, cleverest line I've heard in a R&B dance song EVER. Plus, I've got to give her props for finally getting back at Eminem for all his Mariah-bashing songs.

The chopped and screwed feel of "Ribbon" was a pleasant surprise and welcome addition to a Mariah album. As was the R. Kelly-esque "Betcha Gon' Know" complete with the play-by-play dramatic cliffhanger. And even though the music of "Candy Bling" sounds like a re-worked version of The Dream's "I Luv Your Girl", the back-in-the-day nostalgic love lyrics and snap beat rhythm work surprisingly well for Mariah. "H.A.T.E.U." another Dream-esque song is hauntingly beautiful and poignantly reflects the odd emotion of wishing you could hate someone you loved so much. But the most surprisingly fantastic track on the album for me, though, is "The Impossible." Mariah has never included a "baby-making" sensual song on her albums, something Janet Jackson does blatantly well. And even though "The Impossible" has a cute, sweet, "How many ways do I love thee" theme, the music has a much more risque & sexual tone than I've ever heard from Mariah. For me, it was like hearing "Funny How Time Flies" at the end of Janet's Control album. The mid-90's Jodeci-like vibe and reference in the song ("I love ya like sunsets, bubble baths on a jet...love ya like layin' in the bed bumpin' Jodeci...and I'm forever your lady) made this an instant, late-night, on-repeat classic. I just wish the song was longer!

And if you're just jonesing for some good-old traditional Mariah fare, "Angels Cry"(akin to "I Stay in Love"), "Languishing" (in the vein of "Vanishing"), and her obligatory re-make of the Foreigner hit "I Want to Know What Love Is" (also doubles as her obligatory gospel-esque song), should satisfy your need for familiarity. All in all, "Memoirs" is a well thought out, wonderfully written, cohesive, and fresh-sounding contribution which unfortunately will not be the smash success that "Emancipation of Mimi" was, but should live long and prosper well enough as a cult classic.

2 out of 5 stars Just not a good CD   February 2, 2010

I'm a longtime Mariah fan and supporter, but this CD just didn't do it for me. She was just plain lazy - her voice sounded "average" and we all know she is much better than average - her voice is phenomenal. I got aggravated with the whispering - I wanted to hear some real singing.

Mariah continues to be number 1 with her latest effort Memoirs... She has stood the test of time and has proven to be the number 1 female artist of all time. Great album, great production, always the best with Mariah. She has vocals like no one else. A pure pleasure to listen to. Absolutely one of her best yet, not bad for being in the game so long.
