Album Description Big Whiskey And The GrooGrux King CD Bonus CD (4 never before released tracks) "Big Whiskey Documentary" DVD 16 page CD booklet 24 page saddle-stitched booklet (Tribute to LeRoi Moore) 40 page perfect-bound photo book 14 prints of drawings by Dave Matthews; one for each song Everything packaged together in a special collector's box.
Produced by Rob Cavallo (Green Day, My Chemical Romance), Big Whiskey has been hailed by Rolling Stone as the group’s "heaviest album yet, both musically and emotionally," which went on to note: "Throughout, Carter Beauford beats out elaborate, propulsive groves; bassist Stefan Lessard lays down Flea-style funk bass lines; violinist Boyd Tinsley plays cresting, intense runs; and Matthews mirrors Moore’s saxophone lines with scatlike singing." Billboard, in a cover story on Dave Matthews Band, praised Big Whiskey as "its best album yet… Highlights include the funk-rock rave-up 'Shake Me Like a Monkey,' the stirring ballad 'Lying in the Hands of God,' the swampy rocker 'Alligator Pie (Cockadile),' radio-friendly fare like 'Why I Am,' which features playful horns over a solid rock riff and a hooky chorus, and 'Funny the Way It Is,' which parlays a subtle intro into a soaring, syncopated anthem."

Really Good CD - Not Needed Box Set December 1, 2009 Thomas D. Buikus II (Connecticut) I am a big Dave fan, and have been for quite a few years. This CD in general is one of their best in a very long time. I recommend it to anyone who liked Dave back in the late 90's. The set on the other hand is alright, it comes with some nice pictures and a book, but after looking at it once, it has been put away, probably not to be seen again for 20 years. Save yourself the money and just buy the CD for $13.99.
Excellent. Well above expectations. September 2, 2009 ravenDMB72 This album is a solid step in the right direction for the band after two IMO uninspired albums (stand up, everyday). I think we've yet to see the best from this band.
DMB release one heck of a tribute! July 22, 2009 M. Lindberg (USA) It was years in the making, which included touring and the death of founding member LeRoi Moore. However, the wait was well worth it, as the Dave Matthews Band finally released their highly anticipated new studio album "Big Whiskey and the GrooGrux King" in 2009.
This is easily one of the DMB's strongest studio album's. Although "Everyday," "Busted Stuff" and "Stand Up" were good records, they were a little bit unfocused and the DMB has admitted to that.
This album seems like a true sequel to "Crash" or "Before These Crowded Streets," starting with some smooth sax playing by the late Moore, which I found a great way to start the album. Then the album starts on a bang with the banger "Shake It Like A Monkey."
What's great about this album is that it reflects the best parts of the band. It truly feels like a band record. You get the hip and catchy, such as "Funny The Way It Is," "Why I Am" and "Seven" to name a few, while also getting slow, moving ballads like "Lying In The Hands Of God" and "Baby Blue." And the album ends on a high note with the simple, yet clever "You & Me."
The Super Deluxe is a must have for any die hard DMB fan, offering a bonus disc of four songs. The songs aren't great, but they are good. And a fan like myself appreciates them.
The S.D. also comes with lithographs of Dave Matthew's art for the album, a special tribute to LeRoi, a DVD and a book capturing photos spanning the band's whole career.
Overall, DMB impressed me with this album and I hope there will be several studio albums to follow in the future.
DMB - Back to their roots. July 6, 2009 Mark (Chicago, IL USA) Great album. This reason you're probably looking here though is for all the extra "goodies" that comes with this set. It's probably not worth the price tag, but if you can get it for $30 or less, I think it's a good buy. It comes with some really cool artwork drawn by Dave himself for each song, great band photos and a flip book paying tribute to LeRoi. Not to mention the bonus cd and bonus DVD. All-in-all, some nice bonuses. The songs from this album are going to play great live, make sure to see DMB this summer!
waited years for this one July 3, 2009 Aaron L. Pittmon (Susanville, CA) Bought this 'bout a month ago and it's still fresh. This album made me want to buy a good pair of headphones to appreciate it, and I did. I've been a dmb head since their first album, and think their first two are still without equal. But this offers more "volume" to their style, and more intracacy as far as horns and range throughout each song. The extra cd is all-right with the exception of "little red bird" which paired with my new headphones is epic, total instant classic and worth the extra price. Dave's artwork is impressive also, something I didn't expect. Bottom line-if your a Dave fan, buy it, you won't be dissapointed. Side point; the headphones I bought were Sennhiser 600's (around $250)and WOW I do recommend buying some sort of good headphones 'cause the "earbud" headphones don't do anything justice, and you will need power for these headphones. I bought "total bit head" headphone amp for around $150. I'm not "selling" these headphones, just trying to spread the word about good headphones, do your own research but beleive me buying a good pair of headphones is essential to music listening-I just found this out and I'm trying to get my brother to get some. Hope this helps! Enjoy....
