How can you lose January 7, 2010 Paul S (Portland OR area) You can't lose with this CD. Solid tunes. Album of the year, no, hence the 4 rating. But among his best 4 albums - easily. A must if you are a Paisley fan. Can't wait to play this over and over.

It's Paisely December 27, 2009 Daevyd (Dayton, OH USA) It's Paisely doin' what Paisely does! It's all good. It ain't no "Play" but it's worth owning!
Disappointing December 19, 2009 G-Squared (Lakewood, OH) 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
I was very disappointed in this CD. To me, it was not nearly as good as the last Brad Paisley CD I purchased, Time Well Wasted.
Should Have Been CMA Album Of The Year December 19, 2009 Richard S. Nyhan (Los Angeles, CA) I purchased all five of the CMA album nominees for the year (2008)and this one is my favorite by far. There's not one track that I wish was not there, even after listening several times. The album 'changes pace' often to help retain listener interest along with a song selection that ranges from poignant to delightfully silly. This album will cause me to buy "Mud On The Tires" that also came highly recommended a couple of years ago. The Taylor Swift album ("Fearless") won the award this year but I find it relatively predictable and boring compared to this one. Go Brad!!
Brad Paisley- American Saturday Night December 5, 2009 Michael C. Mahan (USA) What makes Brad Paisley work so well isn't the fact that he's a great songwriter in the great country tradition and a fine singer. It isn't even his sense of humor that he often lets play in his songs. It's really his guitar playing. His leads are phenomenal, a blend of modern country with jazz influences, fast and furious and unlike anything else in the country realm.
But his songs also come into play. His toying with words coupled with his fine sense of Americana and his sensitivity probably has no equal in the country genre. And to think that he was starting out as a Nashville songwriter until someone took a gamble and put him on a stadium show where everybody did one song. He did "He Didn't Have to Be" and got a standing ovation, and a star was born. Since then he's put out a wonderful series of covers (such as "Whiskey Lullaby", his beautiful duet with Alison Krauss) and originals (especially his funny ones, like "Alcohol" and "Online"; as his sentimental ones such as his "Letter to Me" and the aforementioned "He Didn't Have to Be").
This CD is more straight forward country than his earlier recordings. There is no clowning around with his "Cornology" series. This can be regarded as either a plus or a minus, depending on your personal feelings, but the elimination of the silliness (but inclusion of his funny bone on a few songs) makes this CD less fractured and therefore stronger.
The songs include some that look at how far America has come in the last sixty years in "Welcome to the Future", a look at growing up as over of the "Water", the beautiful religious song about a boy and his grandfather in "No", a humorous look at boys will be boys with "Catch All the Fish", a irreverent look at sexual role models in "the Pants", and some incredible guitar playing in a hidden instrumental track that closes the album.
(4.5 stars out of 5)
