    Editorial Reviews:

    Album Description
Produced by Rob Cavallo (Green Day, My Chemical Romance), Big Whiskey has been hailed by Rolling Stone as the group’s "heaviest album yet, both musically and emotionally," which went on to note: "Throughout, Carter Beauford beats out elaborate, propulsive groves; bassist Stefan Lessard lays down Flea-style funk bass lines; violinist Boyd Tinsley plays cresting, intense runs; and Matthews mirrors Moore’s saxophone lines with scatlike singing." Billboard, in a cover story on Dave Matthews Band, praised Big Whiskey as "its best album yet… Highlights include the funk-rock rave-up 'Shake Me Like a Monkey,' the stirring ballad 'Lying in the Hands of God,' the swampy rocker 'Alligator Pie (Cockadile),' radio-friendly fare like 'Why I Am,' which features playful horns over a solid rock riff and a hooky chorus, and 'Funny the Way It Is,' which parlays a subtle intro into a soaring, syncopated anthem."

    Album Description
Double vinyl LP pressing. 2009 release, the first studio album in over four years from American singer/songwriter Dave Matthews and his trusted band. Produced by Rob Cavallo, Big Whiskey & The Groogrux King is the follow-up to 2005's Stand Up, which was the fourth consecutive DMB studio set to enter the Billboard Top 200 at #1. DMB have sold more than 35 million unites (CDs and DVDs combined) and show no signs of slowing down. 12 tracks.

1 out of 5 stars Good music, bad quality control on LP records   October 4, 2009

I had heard the music as compressed .WMA files and enjoyed it. I had high hopes for the sonic quality of the 2-disc LP record set, and 3 of the 4 sides sound fine, and (in my opinion) sound better than the digital files I heard. However, my side D has serious (this is not an exaggeration)flaws throughout, and close examination of the surface of the disc shows why: the blank or whatever they press it with was full of dirt or dust. I mean that the vinyl is pressed with defects, not that there is dirt lodged in it. Disappointing, to say the least--side D sounds like a bad used record.

5 out of 5 stars My wife loved it!   July 7, 2009

I ordered this LP along with the CD version of this album for my wife as one of her many surprises right before our wedding. She loves DMB, and loves the album, it is her first real LP, and I know it is special to her. I have been collecting vinyl since I was 4 years old and it is by far hte best medium for music ever devised, throw away your MP3 players and get a turntable, you can actually hear the Music, and the emotion inside the music!!!!!!!!! I'm not too much of a DMB fan, but the album is easy enough to listen to. All in all a great buy for the woman I love.

5 out of 5 stars Big Whiskey and the GrooGrux King is an amazing LP   July 1, 2009

I freaking love this album. I received it in a very short amount of time and the product was in pristine shape. That is why I use and will continue to use Amazon.

5 out of 5 stars An Album! Cool!   June 13, 2009

Ok, so I'm a Dave Matthews fan, but coming out with a vinyl record is the coolest thing since the slinky! I love the sound you get from a vinyl record, and the album art is always better than the CD version. I listened to the sample cuts provided by Amazon, and after listening I'm hooked! Dave's melodic voice always captivates me, but the intonations and depth of this effort is truly revealed on this album. Nothing is sacrificed in how the band always intertwines their melodies and chorus together to create the beautiful harmonies that are evident in this work. I'm tempted to buy this album now, but I've already hinted that this would be a great Father's Day gift, so I'll see. I'm also going to buy the CD too. Way to go Dave Matthews Band! You always impress me with your songs, and I can't wait for the next great song.

5 out of 5 stars Solid album   June 3, 2009

Since all of my music is downloaded off Napster's subscription based program I was really drawn to buying the LP for two reasons. First, the Dave Matthews Band rarely comes out with LP's and if they do they are quickly impossible to get get a hold of a year or so later. Second, the album art is very unique and wanted it in a bigger form than a tiny CD case. One thing that concerned me (most likely because I do not typically buy Vinyl) was that I didn't know how they would include the album art from inside the CD with all the lyrics and such. Once I opened it I was pleased to find out that they had divided each side of the sleeve holding the record into four sections with the album art displayed and the lyrics on top just like in the regular CD booklet. They have a ultra edition of this with the records, CD/DVD, and more album artwork for $50 and as a big Dave fan I was really tempted to buy it but looking back I am glad I didn't since Dave's art style just isn't my taste and the majority of the DVD can be found legally on [...].
At the time of this review I bought this album at Best Buy for $ which I thought was an excellent price.
