5 out of 5 stars Best Album Yet!!!   May 28, 2009

Bow Wow for years has tried to act grown with albums like Wanted in 2005, Wanted: Reloaded in 2006, and Price of Fame in 2007. When he was a kid he seemed harder and was accepted as harder more than he has and was on his past 3 solo albums. His third album 'Unleashed' in 2003 was the perfect mix! He was in transition and was in the middle of adult hood and childhood so he brought it at his best! But now that he's finished the transition, he can't seem to get the adult part right! NEW JACK CITY II shows in full effect that he has finally crossed the line! He finally got it right! The song 'Get That Paper' is a full fledged old style, laid back, snoop dogg like beat with lyrics that make you wanna rap along! One of my favs! 'What They Call Me' is a sure fire club banger! If that plays in the club you better believe the dance floor is going to be packed!! 'Roc the Mic' has a 90's feel to it that makes it a nice tune to play late at night in your car while riding through the city. 'Been Doin' This' could be called the best song on the album! Featuring T.I. (the KING of the A) this song has laid back hook with a 'Fresh Az I'm Iz' type beat with hard verse lyrics. In this song Bow simply states that he's been doing this longer than most of yall, he's still fresh and he's not going anywhere. 'I Ain't Playing' featuring Trey Songz is a song that you turn the volume ALL THE WAY UP in your car, roll the windows down with you girlfriend and just ride! The bass in the song is incredible and the chorus makes you wanna move! It explains how he used to want girls and didn't know what to do with them and now he has them and is ready to tear'm up! 'Pole in My Basement' is a T-Pain vocal type deal where Bow sings on it. It shows a mature side of him that we really haven't seen before. If I had to rate this album I'd give it 5 STARS. A lot of people don't like this, saying it's not good or its garbage because they're so used to his albums being garbage that they listen to it with a pre-set state of mind knowing that it's going to be trash and never give it a chance! What they don't realize is that they already rate the album before they hear it! So how can you write an honest review when you go their with your mind made up before you even listen to it? This album is on point! It's just rock solid! So if you want to know what the best rap album is of Spring2009... here it is! 'New Jack City II' is Bow Wow's official claim on the rap game in other words saying "It took me a minute, but I got here and I'm going hard with all I got. And I ain't given up that easy!" This album is definitely worth buying! I would buy the CD with the blue face though and not the red one. Not the one with his hat on and NEW JACK CITY II in big red writing. I mean the one with just his face and its blue. That gives you 3 extra tracks including a song featuring Lil' Bow Wow call 'Anything You Can Do' which is his way of officially laying Lil' Bow Wow to rest and putting him to sleep for good and giving big Bow Wow the Crown that was once worn by Lil' Bow Wow. If you've always thought about buying his album or you're an old fan that has moved away from him... now is the time to go back!

1 out of 5 stars Money, Cars, Women, Cars, Money....   May 6, 2009

How many songs can one come up with that outlines the money you make, the women you sleep with, and the car you were driving when you picked up the woman you were sleeping with? I am tired of Bow Wow and his lame, redundant songs that he comes out with. It is sad really because he is a talented young man but it just becomes daunting after a while. He cannot rap about anything else because he always had money coming in. There was no struggle so the music is coming from fluff and it is so sad. Bow Wow, I will listen to you when you take a break, go through something real like LIFE, and then come back with a message worth hearing. Otherwise, please stop rapping! Thank you for your consideration!

    3 out of 5 stars Surprisingly...it's not that bad!!!   May 4, 2009

Bow Wow seems to have made the transition from child star to a man right in front our eyes. He's certainly come a long way from Snoop Dogg's video and playing basketball. His lyrical ability has also improved dramatically. He's really not that bad of a rapper anymore and I'm all for improvement between albums. We already knew he could flow but it was him always saying something lame.

New Jack City II presents a theme of pulling samples from the "new jack" era as he samples S.O.S. Band (get their greatest hits ASAP then the albums!), Bobby Brown, and TLC. And those songs where he does that happen to be the best songs. Pole In My Basement (Drumma Boy) seems to be the best song in my opinion but also She's My (a smooth rendition of Bobby Brown's classic), Like This, You Can Get It All, and Been Doin This.

If I had a choice between this album and the new Jim Jones then I would choose New Jack City II in a new york minute. I admit I had pretty low expectations coming into this album but was pleasantly surprised with a few real bangers. I know Bow Wow flopped on the charts with this album but it really isn't as bad as that or the critics would suggest. This is easily the best Bow Wow album I've heard and from my past reviewing his albums (I gave one of his albums a flat zero...) that should at least count for something. If he continues to make music then I will look forward to see how he develops as an artist. 3 stars.
