Simple Plan's third CD strikes to the swollen heart of emo, and maybe even pierces it a little. Compared with the band's first two albums, this eponymous one leans a shade more sedate, a bit less manic. Which is not to suggest that the boys don't bring it on this boringly titled 11-tracker. Trademark huge choruses crest in "Hold On" and "When I'm Gone," both of which edge toward the pure pop heart of the pop-punk divide. "I Can Wait Forever," a power ballad, makes you wonder whether the whiny-voiced front man Pierre Bouvier might have a few more genuinely reflective songs in him. Familiar themes bubble to the surface throughout: "Your Love Is a Lie" and "No Love" say everything about the band's commitment to upholding emo's core of self-pity and general despair. But it's not as if you'll be able to sit still and whine along as the songs roll on. Simple Plan's plan--to get you bouncing, bobbing, and otherwise grooving--is still simple. AWWWW THE OLD SELF TITLED TRICK...BANDS USE THIS WHEN CD SALES FALL....
CD NUMBER 3 ISNT AS GOOD AS "STILL NOT GETTING ANY"... HOWEVER A FEW TRACKS DO STAND OUT.....
THEY TRIED A FEW DIFFERENT TRICKS ON THIS CD....USING A POP INFLUENCE AND A FEW HEAVIER MOMENTS WHICH FALL SHORT..
THEY SHOULD STICK TO WHAT THEY WERE GOOD AT CATCHY MELODIES.....
IF THEY DO CONTINUE..THEY SHOULD EVENTUALLY SHRUG OFF THE POP/PUNK IMAGE AND BE MORE STRAIGHT AHEAD ROCK...
NOT A BAD ALBUM.....COULDVE BEEN BETTER THOUGH....

You will have to put your preconceptions aside before listening to this album as this is a dramatic change in direction compared to their past albums. If you are an "old school" Simple Plan fan, you may have difficulty in accepting this album, but it is truly a spectacular album. Simple Plan's original teenage fan base from their first 2 albums are now into their 20s and Simple Plan has adjusted its tone to reflect its maturing fans, making a large leap away from their "life sucks" high school punk roots.
This was the first Simple Plan album where I actually enjoyed each and every song, so much so that it is hard to pick any stand-out favorites. The ballad "I Can Wait Forever" is without a doubt the album's best song, followed most likely by "Your Love is a Lie" and "What If". I also thoroughly enjoyed the heavily criticized "Generation" - it has a good beat and is very catchy.
I'm not a huge fan of synthesizer or electronic melodies, but for some reason, they seem to fit the songs of this album. It will be interesting to see what Simple Plan will put out next, but I for one hope they will grow again with an even more mature rock sound.

I quite like Simple Plan's first two albums and their pop-punk-rock style. I was very disappointed with this new album. The production introduced electrocic elements and backing vocals effects in the first six songs that turned Simple Plan into Backstreet Boys.
From the seventh track (which is very good) on, I could recognize Simple Plan, but most of them are ballads.

This CD the BEST CD you will EVER find. If you are a diehard Simple Plan fan, YOU HAVE TO GET THIS CD!!!!! ANY fan of rock or punk rock will LOVE this CD. My fav. tracks are: 2. Take My Hand 4. Your Love Is A Lie and 11. What If, not to leave out any of the other amzing songs. BUY THIS, coming from a DIEHARD Simple Plan fan. GO SIMPLE PLAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
