Product Description The long-awaited songbook of poems and lyrics, penned by one of the most acclaimed music artists of her time, Alicia Keys, is finally here for her throngs of fans. When she burst onto the scene, Alicia's years of intensive classical piano study and musical schooling paid off with over 12 million copies of her two albums sold, a huge international fan base, and an arena tour with female musical contemporaries, Beyonce and Missy Elliot. Her talent has been rewarded with nine Grammy Awards (including Best New Artist), four American Music Awards, two MTV Video Music Awards, a Billboard Award, and two Soul Train Awards.
Though Alicia has been very vocal through her career, there were always "delicate thoughts" that she never before imagined she'd share with anyone else-until now. Alicia Keys opens the journals and notebooks that she has kept throughout her life, documenting her growth as a person, a woman, and an artist, and reveals her heart to her fans in return for all the love they have shown to her and her music.

loved this one July 13, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
miss Keys opened up her heart and let us see the raw working of her in her early years. Great job!!
alicia stick to what you do best.... June 21, 2008 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
alicia was never my cup of tea...yeah, she's pretty, she can sing, and she can work a piano, but her songs are too mainstream for my taste...there are only so many ways you can sing about love and it gets old after a while.
same with her poetry....a lot of her writing is basically greeting card level with ocassional moments of depth....if you're not really into poetry, you may actually like this book, but if you like writing that requires creativity and substance, you should pass on this...and alicia, stick to playing piano in your videos, dance as little as possible....
Chase Von, The Last Panthers Review of Tears For Water April 28, 2008 As some one who writes poetry and also song lyrics and more, I was awaiting the arrival of this book pretty anxiously. I also really enjoyed it! Being a fan of Alecia Keys, I have to applaud her for having the heart to share this other side of herself with the world.
And unlike some of the other reviewers here, I took into account that in the inside of the book jacket, it states that this is a collection of thoughts she had written down that she previously didn't want to share with anyone, to include her closest confidants. I think some of this read like thoughts, some of it read like song lyrics, and some of it read like poetry. As for it being adolescent, I did see that in parts but what I took away from it is how she has had to deal with her life in the beginning of her career and how it is currently. (And we all have to remember when she hit the big time she was still quite young). Who can say aside from her, how much of that made up the contents of this book?
One of the pieces I liked most was "No Room For Religion", it as well as several other pieces show that she has a deep concern for what is really transpiring in the world. That is also reflected in "Cosmopolitan Woman" and various other places in this book as well. The other thing that pours through is her loneliness and her isolation and her inability to trust people because of what ever thier true intentions might actually be.
I see a woman who is still becoming, a child that has had to deal with an adult world and a gifted soul who has had to very often, be her own best friend. I think people looking for fantastic poetry itself, might be disappointed to lay facts on the line, but people who have admired her, and who call themselves fans, will truly appreciate hearing her voice when she isn't singing...
The one we all have...
The one that is really who we are...
And few are brave enough to drop on the world at large...
When the raving fans leave and the curtains are drawn, and the spot lights have been turned down...
The one that mesmerized you with her world acclaimed skills still has to look in the mirror and realize, she might be famous, but she is still human, with the needs we all have as human beings...
She's shared that, and I applaud her for letting her fans, most of which are young, know that she too has her doubts, fears and insecurities to deal with as well... But she isn't letting that stop her...
Continue to bless all who are willing to recieve Golden Child Sincerely, Chase Von Your Chance to Hear The Last Panther Speak
Alicia Keys is the closest thing to perfection April 27, 2008 The book came in perfect condition. More evidence of the incredible talent of Alicia Keys. I hope she continues to put out books of her poems and lyrics.

Not what I thought. It's a book of written poems. I was expecting a story or novel.
