Amazon.com For years, a not-insignificant contingent of Destiny's Child fans have been claiming that Kelly Rowland, not Beyoncé, was the diva to watch in that group--the one whose crystalline vocal gifts got piggybacked on. With that kind of underdog love, Kelly could have coasted in her solo career, cranking out batches of classy ballads and midtempo joints designed mostly to keep the faithful convinced they were right. Ms. Kelly, though, has some points to prove, foremost among them that this songbird can rock: "I told y'all I was gonna bump like thee-es," she boasts alongside Eve on the red-hot banger of a first single that is "Like This." Later, she sidles up to Snoop Dogg in the slinkiest way possible on "Ghetto," busts out the funk on "Work," and scissor-kicks expectations about the limits of her clean voice on "Comeback." As the disc rolls on, Rowland's friskiness mellows--"The Show," with Tank, puts the focus on the near-forgotten art of harmonizing and "Still in Love with My Ex" makes a sweet study of romantic regret. The closing track, a ballad a country crooner could have had a good time with, nevertheless gets to the bottom of why this disc is so worth shelling out for: The love Rowland sings about on "This Is Love" is "like a diamond in the sand"; so, we come to realize, is she. --Tammy La Gorce

Kelly Steps Strong To Party! October 2, 2009 *badgirl* (M-I-A) Kelly Rowland is no longer in the shadows or the background as in the past with "Destiny's Child". She is now standing strong solo to take on the R&B music world by storm. Her drive, determination and ambition is apparent. Both this version and the Ms. Kelly Deluxe offer diverse music listening experiences. While many love the singing without hip-hop crunk or many array featured artist like the Deluxe version, this one is for the lovers of both --hip-hop + R&B. The Japan Import has the 5 stars rating but this US release is very good too. The majority of songs flow nicely with no filler or boring monotonous beats. It's a sensational growth to a more dance up-tempo party vibe as compared to her last album.
Her vocal pitch is nicely heard on an array of songs on variety of styles from slow jams to mellow to fast. The song, Work has a catchy infectious groove sure to make the average music lover feel renewed and recharged to dance, sing along, or get the dance moods on high. Hip-hop lovers will find delight in the more darker edgier tracks like Snoop Dogg's "Ghetto" thus bringing some swagger, funk, and rap. Also quite funky is the hit topping Like This, Pt. 1 bringing more dance fans into a sweat for more.
Softer melodies include the tracks like "This Is Love" bringing romance in the forefront and full center. Not a huge fan of this type of beats I found the Deluxe Version to be better. Also, "Still In Love With My Ex" is another jam with mellow beats that doesn't quite fit my musical tastes and another reason for my preferred interest to the Deluxe Version [which is not on it]. A nice pick me up type song is "Better Without You" highlighting the feelings of being better without the lover who was doing you wrong.
While some of the R&B industry continues to release sad, low keyed melodies about cheating, bashing an ex, or sensual undertones, the newer artists that emerge get to pour a new direction of happier, more positive beats, party sounds, and life-lesson themes never sad or depressing but rather entertaining and fun at the same time. This album is definitely party fun to enjoy!
Kelly Rowland Shines September 22, 2009 fatman Kelly Rowland finally got her chance to shine and come from the whole destiny's child shadow which hunted her for years from her first solo release of "Simply Deep". This album was well arranged and the prductions were on point and up to date. Kelly voice rings and proves she just as talented as the rest. I was very pleased to be one of the first people to own this album waited to mid night to buy it, it was well worth the wait.
Excellent sophomore album!!!! October 18, 2008 Carlos E. Parra-herran (Miami, FL USA) Even though I think "Like this" was not strong enough to be the first single, I bought the CD because I'm a loyal fan of DC and of course, of Kelly. This album is AWESOME!!! My favorite songs are "Work", "Flashback" and "Still in love with my ex". Excellent job Kelly, I don't really know why other parts of the world appreciated more this outstanding album than people in America.
Ms. Kelly September 14, 2008 O (Cape Cod, MA) Kelly Rowland returns (from her 5-year break from making a solo cd) with the sexy and fresh Ms. Kelly album. It is the follow up to her debut, Simply Deep, which was more contemporary rock ballads than anything. I particularly enjoyed that album, but when I heard the song Flashback (as an extra audio track) on Destiny's Child's Live In Atlanta DVD, I was really excited. Then I heard all the rumors about My Story, to be released in 2006. The release dates kept getting pushed back, and eventually just stopped. But in March of 2007, Like This came out as the first single. It was just an all-around fun track, and to this day I still love it! When the album came out in July 2007, I bought it that day. I was surprised by how much it completely captured me! The album will take any listener on an unforgettable journey of ups and downs of relationships. My favorites are Like This, The Show, Flashback, Love, Every Thought Is You, and Comeback. Great job Kelly!
Its better than the first CD July 30, 2008 Keepinitreal 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I must say when I heard "Like This".. I just knew the cd was gonna be HOT!!. I freak n loved the song. So I couldn't wait till the CD came out. The excitement went away after listening to the cd. Now I will say "The Show" was a hot song not sure why it wasn't released as a single but it was way better than "Ghetto" however I do like "Ghetto", the only other song that stuck out at me was "LOVE" was feelin the beat and everything but the hook was so ugly but I still like the song.
