3 out of 5 stars A charming early rock tablature book   October 15, 2007
    thegnuewe (Boynton Beach, FL)
This is one of the earliest tablature books that came to market in the early 80's. (1980 to be specific) A lot of tablature oriented guitar magazines came about soon after these books were introduced and the heavy metal boom happened in the 80's. Richard Daniel's illustrations are superb and lovingly crafted from existing photos. His introduction and biography are excellent too, including a small discography of the early albums and a short synopsis of the transcription process in the pre-digital era. His advice on scale fundamentals is good and the use of the relative scales are instructive. However, the transcriptions are not always accurate and there are some mistakes. If you wan't faithful transcriptions of Hendrix, seek out anything by Andy Aledort. If you want a lovingly crafted piece of Hendrix emphemera from an earlier age, this is that book. (I still have my copy 27 years later) Daniel's is also the author of the Guitar Bible, quite a good book that has held up well and is - again - wonderfully illustrated.
