Amazon.com Already an accomplished poet and novelist before he ambled into the music business in his mid-'30s, Leonard Cohen has remained as musically influential as he is publicly enigmatic for four decades. This celebration of Cohen's songbook began as a free concert that quickly mushroomed into a star-studded live tribute film shot at Sydney's famed Opera House and Brighton Dome. Musically supervised by Hal Willner (who's produced similar recorded tributes to Mingus, Monk, Rota and Weill), it recasts Cohen's evocative, emotionally uncompromising songs in compelling performances by singers who range from fellow cult heroes Nick Cave and Beth Orton to energetic newcomer Teddy Thompson and even rock gods U2. The latter's powerful collaboration with Cohen himself on the signature "Tower of Song" bookends Martha Wainright's solo opening rendition of the composition, deftly underscoring the project's eclectic artisanship in the bargain. Cave somehow channels the title track through Chicago's South Side via Weimar Berlin, while Teddy Thompson ponders "The Future" with exuberance and The Handsome Family informs "Famous Blue Raincoat" with elegant melodrama. Other standouts include Rufus Wainwright's nouveau Tango work-up of "Everybody Knows," Perla Batalla's gorgeous, Norteño-seasoned "Bird On a Wire" and her collaborations with Cave and Julia Christenson on "Suzanne" and "Anthem." A collection that's both a savvy primer to Cohen's catalog and impressive artistic achievement in its own right. --Jerry McCulley
Album Description This soundtrack features powerful performances of Cohen masterpieces by an outstanding array of today's top singer-songwriters. The tracks on the CD were recorded live at Hal Willner's "Came So Far For Beauty: An Evening of Leonard Cohen Songs", at the Brighton Dome as part of the Brighton Festival 2004 and at the Sydney Opera House as part of the Sydney Festival 2005, except "Tower of Song"featuring Leonard Cohen and U2.

Great CD! October 26, 2009 Nancy Henry Both my husband and I love every song on this CD. The more we hear it the more we love it. The DVD is great too because you can see what the singers look like and how passionate they about what they are singing - some songs are so beautifully done it brings tears to my eyes. I wish "Hallelujah" were on the CD but for some reason they substituted a song that wasn't part of the DVD. Still, it's a great CD!
Leonard Cohen: I'm Your Man October 21, 2009 D. Turkus The artists singing Cohen's music make it come to life. Much better than listening to Cohen himself (no offense Leonard if you happen to read this).
Simply brilliant June 16, 2009 N. Hall (New England) Of course, nothing beats hearing the man himself, so it's fitting that the disk closes with Cohen performing the richest version of Tower of Song I've ever heard (and, no, Hank Williams still hasn't answered yet). But the rest is mostly pure gold--Rufus Wainwright's take on Everybody Knows, his sister Martha's version of The Traitor, and Teddy Thompson's "Tonight Will be Fine" are especially, well, fine. Very fine.
Unexpectedly wonderful--Antony's rendition of "If it Be Your Will." You'll either love it or hate it--I love it.
My only complaint is that it should have been a multiple disk set so that all the performers who appeared at the tour's various venues might have been included.
Leonard Cohen June 3, 2009 Alan R. Miner (Prescott, Arizona) Leonard Cohen "I'm your man" is a tribute DVD made with singing artists who are largely unkown in the United States. This is the best concert tribute record which celebrates Leonard Cohen's music and gives great notariety to all the great performers.

Leonard Cohen: I'm Your Man May 21, 2009 C. C. Bing (Wyoming USA) After seeing the DVD "I'm Your Man", I couldn't live without the soundtrack. I was unfamiliar w/ the Wainwrights, Antony, the Handsome Family, etc - and now look for them everywhere. Awesome collection!!
