Amazon.com There's nothing like a breakup to focus your muse. This follow-up to the stunning, multi-platinum Fallen was penned as singer Amy Lee's troubled romance with bandmate Ben Moody was spiraling out of control, impelling her to craft an anxious record full of recriminations, revelation, and self-flagellation, as she questioned everything that kept her whole. It's a fascinating journey for the listener as she ventures into her own personal heart of darkness, her stricken, perfect voice suspended on an unsteady precipice between breakdown and breakthrough. Despite the loss of two members, including guitarist Moody who left mid-tour in 2003, the album has a maturity, sophistication, and a singular vision that wasn't found in their earlier work. Stately and as exotic as Led Zeppelin's Physical Graffiti, with its intricate instrumentation, disturbing imagery, and disembodied chorus, The Open Door shows exactly what this band is capable of. "Snow White Queen" is a goth-y alternative to Mariah Carey's "We Belong Together," equally anthemic, but with much more grit and pain. --Jaan Uhelszki

BEST ALBUM EVER!! January 15, 2010 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This may just be the best album ever! I got it for Christmas, and I can't stop listening to it! There is no song that I would ever skip on this album! Here are my ratings on the songs individually.
1.Sweet Sacrifice~ 9/10 This song just plain ROCKS!
2.Call Me When You're Sober~ 10/10 My brother said this was on B104...
3.Weight of the World~ 8/10 They kinda keep repeating the chorus at the end...but
still, an awesome song!!
4.Lithium~ 10/10 Amy's voice really soars on this song! Awesome!
5.Cloud Nine~ 9/10 Why did they call it "Cloud Nine"? Still, an awesome song that
you will have stuck in your head, first listen!!
6.Snow White Queen~ 7/10 This song doesn't really fit with the theme of the album.
7.Lacrymosa~ 8/10 A remake of a classic Mozart song, with their own twist to it
(like words!!)
8.Like You~ 9/10 A very dark song, about Amy's deceased sister, like "Hello"
from "Fallen"
9.Lose Control~ 10/10 I like the part "Mary had a lamb/his eyes black as coals/if
we play very quiet/Mary never has to know" I think
that means she's gonna kill it...
10.The Only One~ 11/10 My favorite song on the album, though it starts with
a lady singing opera, then a duck quack....
11.Your Star~ 9/10 Starts as a slow song, but then turns into a rocker!
(I like that)
12.All That I'm Living For~ 10/10 This song would feel right at home on
"Fallen", it has that same, dark feel
as the songs on "Fallen".
13.Good Enough~ 8/10 A nice piano ballad, FINALLY!! A happy song from
Evanescence!!
Total album rating: 18/20

I ordered this for my daughter for Christmas. She'd put them on her list. I know she'll get a lot of enjoyment from them. Thanks for getting them here so fast.
Thanks!

This album freakin' ROCKS!! October 16, 2009 Anna Davidson (Vermont, USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I am officially a die hard Evanescence fan now. This album is better than the other ones, bringing back the same sound and interesting lyrics as before - but 100 times better. As always, Amy Lee and the band kick butt.
This album is filled with good music. There isn't a single one I dislike. At first I didn't care for a few songs, but after hearing them a few times, I was hooked.
The best song on the album in my opinion is "The Only One," of which I had never heard before listening to the album. Definitely an overlooked piece of work. The album includes hits such as "Call Me When You're Sober," "All That I'm Living For," "Sweet Sacrifice," "Lithium," and "Good Enough."
For those of you who have never heard of Evanescence, they are a metal/rock band like no other, with a very disticnt sound, best known for putting the piano in a lot of their rock music as well as the vocalist Amy Lee's voice. If you prefer softer music, I would suggest that you purchase their first album "Fallen".
For those of you who DO know who Evanescence is - BUY THIS ALBUM!!!
Not as rocking as "Fallen", but still an great CD. October 14, 2009 Steven (TX) I just recently heard of Evanescence....(Yes I have been living under a rock!), but anyway I digress. I ordered "Fallen" a few weeks ago, enjoyed it so much I ordered this CD and got it yesterday. Listened to it 3 times so far, great CD. Overall not as rocking as "Fallen", but Amy Lee is still awesome!
I would have to say, "Good Enough" is my favorite song on this CD....Amy's beautiful voice brings tears to my eyes. I wish they were in concert somewhere!!!
