Amazon.com A few decades ago nearly every country singer had at least one--often more--gospel albums in their catalog. Today, aside from gospel veteran Amy Grant, who balances the sacred and secular, and Randy Travis, that concept has long faded. For Alan Jackson, however, treating the musical past as present has been a way of life, as it is with these 15 timeless hymns from his youth. Recorded with just two acoustic guitars and a piano, it was originally a private Christmas present to his mother. The spare instrumentation is surprisingly robust behind his flawless readings of "I'll Fly Away," "Softly and Tenderly," "How Great Thou Art," "Are You Washed in the Blood?," and "The Old Rugged Cross," all as beguilingly unpretentious as any of his country hits. Instead of an all-star duet, wife Denise and daughters Mattie and Ali join in on "'Tis So Sweet to Trust in Jesus." In the end, what began as a private bequest becomes a moving, eloquent gift to Jackson's entire audience. --Rich Kienzle

Satisfied in Alabama January 24, 2010 R. Dutton (Alabama) I ordered 2 of these cd's,1 for myself and 1 for my in laws, this is the most beautiful gospel cd I have ever heard...My father in law was very sick when I gave this to them and it soothed him so much he relaxed and fell asleep while listening to it..I play this several times a day and also put in on before I go to bed and off to sleep I go..This is a must for EVERYONE that loves gospel music..It arrived in a very timely manner and was just as I suspected..Was brand new as the seller stated and I will order from that seller again..
Have A BLESSED DAY
Wonderful music January 18, 2010 Z. Fixit (NW USA) This CD is a family favorite. The music is wonderful, and is so soothing to the soul. We listen to this over and over and never get tired of it. It is the most listened to CD in our home.
The Way Hymns Should be Sung! January 12, 2010 buyer If you are familiar with the old hymns you will love all of these songs and the way Alan sings them. If you are not familiar with them, you will really enjoy them as well and see why the hymns are so uplifting. So pure and without pounding instruments that just cover up the beauty of the message in these hymns. It is such a wonderful album that will encourage and edify you!
Just great! January 7, 2010 Denise (Lexington, KY) I enjoy this cd so much, I bought 2 more for friends. It's such comforting, traditional gospel tunes which Alan Jackson delivers nicely. He doesn't try to give any of it "new spins" or his own interpretation, it's like he's standing beside you singing out of a hymnal at church. FYI: he originally recorded this for his mother and it was never supposed to be released to the public, but friends kept hearing it and requesting their own copy!
Precious Memories December 24, 2009 Alohagal (Kona, Hawaii) This is one of the greatest CD's. Alan Jackson has done a simple version of great religious songs. The music is just perfect to truly enjoy each song to its fullest. Great Job Alan.
