Album Description Rammstein, Rosenrot
East German industrial titans follow up 2004's Reise Reise with this fifth studio album, whose title translates as "Rose Red". It consists of leftover material from the Reise Reise sessions which the band felt strong enough to merit a release in its own right. On this album they continue to broaden their palette with a track in Spanish and a duet with Texas's Sharleen Spiteri on "Stirb Nicht Vor Mir" ("Don't Die Before Me"). Includes the single "Benzin" ("Petrol").

If this album were a sandwich... February 1, 2010 Hilary Amon ...the bread would be soft, the lettuce would be fresh, and the meat would highly discolored, possibly contianing ebola. Sound appetizing? In thoery, if you have a favorite album, you have to have a least favorite album. Although it's not really that bad, this one would have to be my least favorite Rammstein album. Ultimately, there were good things and bad things about it.
The bad things:
If I never heard the track, "Wo bist du" ever again for as long I lived, that would be just fine with me, and the song "Stirb nicht vor mir" should be banished to the gap between dimensions. Yes it's that bad. Both of those songs are so cheesy (the latter especially) and cliché, they don't sound like genuine Rammstein. The guy singing sounds more some mutant clone of Till than the Till I know and love. It seems most likely that the band had nine songs for their new album and needed two more. These songs just don't have purposeful existance.
The good things:
The artwork is incredible. I never download MP3 versions of albums for a reason and artwork like this is a prime example. It is so interesting and thought provoking, one could just gaze upon it for hours.
The songs "Hilf mir," "Rosenrot," and "Ein Lied" are just spectacular. Lyrically, the first two of those three give you all you could ever ask for from Rammstein. They twist, they turn, and they fill you with emotion. "Ein Lied" is a very interesting song because of how the lyrics fit into the music. It's a very calming song, and it can make any troubles or worries melt away in an instant.
Everything else doesn't really have a negative or positive polarity.
Rosenrot November 21, 2009 Bjorn Viberg (European Union) Rosenrot being Rammstein's 5th studio album and their 2005 release is mix between Neue Deutsche Härte and industrial metal. The album spawned 3 singles, i.e., "Benzin", "Rosenrot" and "Mann gegen Mann". The album received relatively positive reviews. Allmusic, Kerrang gave it 3/5 whilst Popmatters gave it 8/10. The booklet contains all the lyrics but not a list of whom plays what on the album. 4/5.
Rammstein September 24, 2009 K. La Veque I think it was a bit different than their previous material. I absolutely love the song "Don't die before I do". I give it 5 stars. I've been a Rammstein fan for a long time and will remain one.
Bold.... September 11, 2009 JT (Odessa) Their latest Album, Rammstein proves again why I love them so much. Though I don't speak German or care to know what they are saying, the music in this ablum carries me away it's strange and dreamlike atmosphere of synthesized choirs and slow heavy beats.
Among my favorites are "Woe Bist Du?" and "Rosenrot", which I feel along with "Fuerer Und Wasser" at the band's best and most moving yet. On par with Reise,Reise's "Ohne Dich", "Woe Bist Du?" calls to mind something of a Epic poem like Beowulf (not the film, the story) with it's powerful, operatic vocals and moving synthesize passages.
"Rosenrot" seems to convey something darker and more atmospheric, even the banned video which I'm sure is somewhere on YouTube denotes something sinister.
The most power of the entire CD has to be "Fuerer Und Wasser", in which begins at a smoldering pace and explodes into a powerful crashing crescendo near the end.
In my opinion, the barnburner of a first track "Benzin" (translated as Petrol or Fuel) is quite a compliment to the band's penchant for pyrotechnics in their shows.
While there are some weaker points in the CD, the most hilarious is "Te Quiero Puta!" (I'm not going to translate the spanish part, lol, but it's something bad). Hearing Till Lindemann sing in spanish complete with a Mariachi style trumpet accompanyment left me rolling in fits of laughter. But I still dig it, even if I know what the spanish translates to in english, and like most rock music, it's pretty darn dirty. Lol, but good for laughs.
The entire CD closes on the haunting note of "Ein Lied", which in itself sounds quite claustrophobic yet deeply intimate when stripped of all the chugging guitars, thundering bass and so-accurate-you-can-set-your-watch-by-it drum time.
While a completely different departure from their last album, Rammstein still seems to have an edge even if something is horribly weak.
That's my two cents.
boring July 15, 2009 J. Hubble (Northern California) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
The production was well polished and high quality. However, I couldn't help but feel bored listening to it. It almost appears that they are going through the motions musically, while saving their efforts for adolescent lyrics and wild live shows. There are some bits of varied musicality and language, with a slow partially English ballad, and an 'industrial Mariachi' song in Spanish. But, the core seems to be hard hitting without enthusiasm.
