| Editorial Reviews:
Amazon.com Winner of five Oscars (including two for Richard and Robert Sherman's memorable slate of songs), Disney's 1964 adaptation of British author P.L. Travers' beloved children's tales melded live action, animation and music more successfully than any film before or since. Containing the most complete version of the Sherman Brothers' score and a wealth of previously unavailable behind-the-scenes treasures, this double-disc, 40th anniversary soundtrack edition becomes the ultimate musical tribute to the beloved family masterpiece. The Sherman's memorable songs are showcased here in a more comprehensive musical context than ever before; indeed, a number of the expanded or previously unreleased pieces of the Irwin Kostal-arranged underscore now included were truncated in editing the film itself. The generous bonus disc contains the set's greatest historical treasure: a 40+ minute pre-production story meeting between the Shermans, gag writer Don DaGradi and author Travers herself. Also included is a lengthy 1964 audio documentary featuring the Shermans and stars Julie Andrews and Dick Van Dyke, an audio montage of the songwriting team reminiscing and playing their original demos for the project and an illustrated 40-page companion booklet containing a history of the project as well as complete song lyrics. -- Jerry McCulley

Christmas Gift for 3.5 yr old Daughter December 22, 2009 Kiki Odell This is still in the box till Christmas Day but i am sure it must be as good as the record version i had in the 70s. There is no voice like Julie Andrews. I have wonderful memories and now my daughter will too. Step in Time!
A TIMELESS CLASSIC October 10, 2009 Barbara (Long Island, NY) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Julie Andrews IS Mary Poppins and this CD captures the very essence of the movie. The DVD is a classic and so is this CD! When I hear "A Spoonful of Sugar" it can only be sung by the one and only Julie! The songs have spanned generations and this is a terrific CD for the new generation of Mary Poppins aficionados!
Sidenote... I made a back-up CD editing the songs my granddaughter likes the most so she can hear spoonful of sugahhhh and supercalifragilisticexpialadocious over and over again!
Great to have it all! September 27, 2009 LD400RN (Sebaastopol, CA, USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This CD is what one could call "The Complete Poppins" It has every single bit of music (underscoring and dance included) used in the final film and it sounds as fresh and lively as it did when I was a child. The second disc features interviews with P.L.Travers, who wrote the original Poppins stories, and the Sherman Brothers, who wrote the film. It is a fascinating look at a unique collaboration. All in all it is one of the best soundtrack re-releases I own. There's no hesitation for you in buying it (unless you're diabetic, then a spoonfull of sugar would not be a good thing - I kid, I kid - ok, ok send the veteran RN death threats).
All the music from the movie on one CD! September 1, 2009 St. Louis Momma 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
Has all the songs and instrumental music from the Mary Poppins movie. If you're looking for a complete movie soundtrack, this is the one to buy!
A great cd to go with the movie November 27, 2008 D. L. Shand (New Zealand) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Another one of Julie Andrews wonderful musical movies! I never thought I'd find Mary Poppins on CD but was very happy when I did! As I then could learn like Mary Poppins how to say Supercalifragilistic backwards which I'm still learning how to do and as it as taken this long I don't think I ever will.
