Not only does Jessica Simpson know how to light up a room (and a TV series, various awards shows, and a flurry of magazine covers), she's also got a gift for warming up rooms. If you have yet to feel the heat, look no further than Re-Joyce, on which things get roasty-toasty in the space of a few tracks. Simpson's is a crooning style that's carol-ready--she toboggans her way through opener "Let it Snow, Let it Snow, Let it Snow" effortlessly enough to make us wish we were riding shotgun; vamps it up on "Baby It's Cold Outside," a duet with husband Nick Lachey; and pounds out the rum-pa-pum-pums impressively with sister Ashlee on "Little Drummer Boy." On more heartfelt numbers like "O Holy Night" and "What Child Is This" the odd vocal quirk that makes it sound as though she's choking back a song rather than singing it surfaces, and at times her singing is a little too Amy Grant-clean, but on balance Re-Joyce, named for Simpson's late grandmother, supplies welcome kindling in a winter wonderland overgrown with deadwood. --Tammy La Gorce

5 out of 5 stars My favorite Christmas CD!   November 24, 2009

I have had this CD for 3 years and I still pull it out first! It's my favorite and I love it!

5 out of 5 stars JESSICA SIMPSON "REJOYCE THE CHRISTMAS ALBUM"   December 15, 2008

I own 3 Christmas albums, "Merry Christmas" by Mariah Carey, "Joy: A Holiday Collection" by Jewel and this album by Jessica Simpson. Mariah Carey's voice is outstanding on her Christmas album and Jewel made a brilliant traditional style Christmas album. Jessica Simpson has made a brilliant Pop album, it's very catchy and would fit well for a Christmas party, her version of "Let It Snow, Let It Snow, Let It Snow" is an uptempo track that is alot better in my opinion than the original, her voice (contrary to what some people have said) is whispery on some songs (a bit like Mariah's whispery style of singing) but it is fantastic on "The Christmas Song (Chestnuts Roasting On An Open Fire)," "O Holy Night," "What Child Is This" and "Breath Of Heaven (Mary's Song)" - I would actually say that "Breath Of Heaven (Mary's Song)" and "The Little Drummer Boy" are the two best songs on this CD, I'm not a fan of Ashlee Simpson's music but her and Jessica do a fantastic version of the song, the drums are brilliant. Jessica also co-wrote "It's Christmas Time Again" which stands on it's own as a great Christmas song. Like Ashlee Simpson, I'm not a fan of Nick Lachey either, but him and Jessica do a great job of "Baby It's Cold Outside" - she also has another two uptempo songs with "I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus" (which has a Swing sound to it) and "Hark! The Herald Angels Sing" is has a Gospel choir that just goes crazy towards the end.

A fun, catchy Pop Christmas album, there's nothing "classic" like Mariah's album or traditional like Jewel's, but it is a good album that people should give a chance.

2 out of 5 stars Happy Homogenized Christmas!   November 28, 2007

It's a perfectly plain and digestible Christmas album, just don't expect to be moved. You're better off with Mariah Carey's "Merry Christmas" instead.
The best example of how bland this album is her and ex-hubby Nick Lachey's version of "Baby it's cold outside."
It's just about the deadest rendition of this song ever. It's a nuanced and funny song that's she turns humorless and forgettable -- no easy feat. Listen to just about any other version and you'll see, I recommend Brian Setzer's duet with Ann Margaret.
Do yourself a favor and look for a Christmas album that's a little more heartfelt.

    1 out of 5 stars What a stinker.   November 11, 2007

Rejoyce: The Chirstmas Album by ditzy Jessica Simpson is the worst Christmas-themed cd I have ever heard, and I am serious here guys! The only breathtaking song is Little Drummer Boy, a duet with her sis Ashlee, and you are not gonna believe it but Ashlee sounds better than Jessica on this track! Poor Jessica's voice is too breathy, flat, and just annoying. Jessica has never sounded this dead on an album, what happened to that girl who could belt her heart out? She does a cover of Amy Grant's Breath of Heaven (Mary's Song) and she does not pull it off like Grant's verison. Jessica really messed this up, all the other songs sound hideous, hopefully Jessica won't release another X-mas cd ever again!

2 out of 5 stars Good song choices, wrong voice   October 6, 2007

I love the songs that were on this cd and thats why I bought it. However she over does many of the words in the song turning a listener off. Nick and Ashlee both do good jobs which saves her in some of them. Would not recommend, rather go with Trans-Siberan Orchestra.
