4 out of 5 stars if you like alt. rock you can't go wrong here   October 24, 2008
    B. Miller (london, england)
if like me you don't really care for alt.rock but do occasionly feel the urge to listen to generic catchy as hell rock music, fuel definately do the job well, not as poppy as nickelback and not as dull as creed natural selection proves to be a decent listen.

    3 out of 5 stars Higher-octane Fuel   May 11, 2008
    Nigel Dear (Melbourne, Australia)
This album marks what seems to be a fairly unique trajectory for a rock band. Fuel were always a step above the post-grunge that began to emerge on the charts (Nickelback, 3 Doors Down, Creed) a few years after they established themselves with 'Sunburn'. I think the strengths that distinguished them from that mob were Scallions' voice, Bell's lyrics and a solid sense of melody. The first 2 elements are still apparent in Natural Selection. Rather than selling out and melting into a pool of homogenized crap, or remaining much as they were, Fuel released a third album that seems a lot like an active stand against a commercialised sound. The songs are a lot more densely layered musically, the traditional verse-chorus structure isn't as clearly present and the melody that pervaded their first 2 efforts has been diminished, giving the album a sound that's closer to soft metal than rock. It's an interesting and admirable result, and it would've been potentially awesome if the melody hadn't been diminished to such a degree.

5 out of 5 stars This album is the best I've ever heard   January 6, 2006

I was a fan of the band before I've bought Natural Selection, but since this album I can say that I'm one of the biggest fans of Fuel. Quarter and Won't Back Down are awesome rock songs, while Down Inside Of You, Falls On Me are so beautiful, when I listen to them I always think of that boy I loved so much, but unfortunately he isn't here with me.
But I can say taht their best song for me is still: Hemorrhage (In my hands).

4 out of 5 stars Good Effort   October 16, 2005

Fuel had the kind of sound that you could compare to those old grunge bands like the Smashing Pumpkins, Sound Garden or even Pearl Jam.. Brett Scallions just brings that "post-grunge" edge to the band.. However, I was pleased to find Fuel experimenting with their style on this album.. It was evident right from the radio single, "Fall On Me", a melodic hard rock song..

There is a much harder bass on this CD, and for anyone who heard "Won't Back Down" off the Daredevil Soundtrack, you can expect much of a similar sound.. No more "Shimmer", no more "Bad Day", just hard riffs and strong vocals..

    Standout Songs:
    "Falls On Me"
    "Million Miles" (My personal favorite)
    "Won't Back Down"
    "Running Away"
    "Most Of All"
    "Getting Thru?"

Worth the money, I'd recommend it to anyone who loves hard rock or grunge

fuel have brought out three albums that have shocked me. Their rock, guitars and hard-hitting lyrics are all awesome in all three of these albums.Fuel are obviously one of the best bands today and will go on to prove it to the rest of the world.
