| Editorial Reviews:
Amazon.com Despite its somewhat polite, trip-hoppy surface, Dido Armstrong's music frequently rests on a melancholy that can only be called courageous in the current pop world. Few singer-songwriters with 12 million record sales behind them would offer a single such as Life for Rent's "White Flag," which is in part an apology for the "mess and destruction" the narrator has left with her lover. Emotions are even stickier on other tracks, with Dido's Dusty-ish voice coolly sweeping through "Don't Leave Home," one of the creepiest codependent-love songs since "Every Breath You Take," and in "Who Makes You Feel," ticking off a list of reasons why an affair is dying, while also admitting that she still loves the guy. It's a hard-won romanticism, too, that pokes its head up in the tough-minded "This Land is Mine" and "Do You Have a Little Time" ("I'd like to hold you still/Remind you of all you've missed"). A knotty and rewarding album. --Rickey Wright

Great CD DIDO November 28, 2009 L. Lee Moss I had damaged my original Dido cd and am thrilled to find a new one.
Great album by Dido! April 9, 2009 Shyam Sundar (Seattle, WA USA) This album is a great followup to "No Angel" and she has shown a lot of maturity as a singer-songwriter. Dido possesses a very unique voice that complements her style of songs very well. Great album to wind down at the end of the day or to laze around on a weekend/vacation day with a book. Some tracks like "White flag", "Life for rent", "See the sun" are simply outstanding. Overall, a terrific effort by Dido and I would highly recommend it.
CD-Rent by Dido March 11, 2009 Bill J. Nix (Shelbyville, TN) I bought this CD because of one song (White Flag) and am pleased to have it. I had never heard of Dido and had none of her music prior to this purchase. The other music on the CD was fine and I enjoyed listening it to it but I LOVE "White Flag" and played it over and over. Like the singer's voice and musical style and might be tempted to buy more of her music. But, I base the "five star" rating on "White Flag" because I was so intrigued by it. Bill Joe Nix
DIDO "LIFE FOR RENT" November 30, 2008 Pete Doherty (UK) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
"Life For Rent" equalled Dido's first album, her music, style and voice are all kept pretty much the same. "Sand In My Shoes" is probably the only exception as it's a little bit dancey, not in the music sense, I just mean you could dance around a little bit to the song, on "No Angel" there wasn't any dancey songs.
I think the 4 singles she chose to release off the album were all good choices, "This Land Is Mine" and "See The Sun" could have also been good choices for singles, but I'd say that she picked the right ones.
"Stoned" is a great track, the music is very electronic, I like it. "Mary's In India" is a nice little song, it has a good little story. "See You When You're 40" is one of my favourites (along with "White Flag," "Life For Rent" and "Don't Leave Home") for her vocals.
Basically it's just a great album, another 10 out of 10 from Dido. I haven't heard the new album yet, Santa should be bringing it for me :)
Pure Listening Bliss April 5, 2008 Thomas Santomartino (Newark, DE USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Life For Rent is an excellent album through and through, in fact I can say honestly it's one of my favorites in my entire collection. The singles "White Flag" and "Sand in My Shoes" typify the tone and character of the other tracks. Unlike some other records, ones in which you listen to your favorite single then leave it on the shelf, this one has what it takes to be a classic.
