Amazon.com Coldplay required a lifetime to make their wonderfully assured debut, Parachutes. But it took less than two years for the moody British quartet to deliver a masterful follow-up. As a band, Coldplay have advanced to a stage where they outshine nearly every one of their rivals in terms of imagination and emotional pull. A Rush of Blood to the Head is a soulful, exhilarating journey, moving from the cathartic rock of "Politik" to the hushed tones of "Green Eyes" without once breaking its mesmerizing spell. Singer Chris Martin takes his voice on soaring flights, reaching places only Jeff Buckley previously dared to go. And the music is nearly flawless, a persuasive cross between Pink Floyd and the Verve. Even if they haven't come up with another "Yellow," you would be hard-pressed to care. This is exquisite stuff. --Aidin Vaziri

The Best album of the 00's February 1, 2010 Michael Costa (Chicago,, IL USA) This is, in my opinion, the best album of the 00's. When I watched Aimee Mann perform "The Scientist" in concert a few years ago, simply introducing it as "a great song" I realized what impact "A Rush Of Blood To The Head" has had on the musical landscape since it was released in 2002. Can you name another album from the past decade where other artists are already paying tribute to those tunes in concert?
When all the post-Gwenneth/Yoko effect on the band's career has subsided, "Rush" will have its rightful place in the discussion of truly legendary rock records. It's where U2 left off.. and where Echo and the Bunnymen should have gone... and even Coldplay haven't matched since.

Friends had repeatedly told me that I would like Coldplay. So I picked up this and "Parachutes" at a budget price. I've played each a few times now, but have failed to connect with the band. I like music that makes me feel something, connects with my emotions. For example, "God Put A Smile Upon Your Face" just seems to drone on with the pounding piano, but it doesn't make me feel much. Perhaps I don't connect with the lead singer. I like the style of the music. "The Scientist" is supposed to be one of their best songs, but the vocals seem sterile to me. I feel nothing when the singer croons, "Nobody said it was easy; it's such a shame for us to part." It should be a heartbreak, but it's merely pleasant. "Clocks" is a bright spot, an interesting track, "I am a part of your disease." "Daylight" sounds a bit like the Beatles' "Within You, Without You" from "Sgt. Peppers" mixed with the Beach Boys, but seems repetitive as all the lyricist can come up with is "slowly breaking through the daylight" that gets sung about 25 times in repetition. I suppose it's supposed to be profound more than redundant. You can listen to a few bars of "Whisper" and turn the track off, because they're just going to do the same thing over & over. "Amsterdam" is a wonderful place. I like the song Janis Ian wrote about it better than this one. The singer croons on the sad track, "I swear I waited and waited to get out of this hole." Unfortunately, he doesn't. Solve Sundsbo's cover artwork is very nice. Perhaps.

A Rush of Blood to the Head being Coldplay's 2nd studio album and their 2002 release is an alternative rock release with a sound that to my ears sound like alternative rock light. That does not mean that it is a bad album. Far from it but alernative to me should be a bit more experimental. One could also call this Brit Pop. The album spawned 4 singles. "In My Place", "The Scientist", "Clocks" and "God Put a Smile upon Your Face". The album was met with positive reviews and Allmusic, Rolling Stone and The Guardian all gave it high marks. The booklet is very sparse. It contains no lyrics but a bunch of links to political organizations important to the group. 4/5.

I bought this after hearing songs on Pandora . . . fell in love with Coldplay. U2, Muse fans or others in that genre should consider checking this out.

A couple of years back I had all but given up hope for modern music. It seemed that all that was out there was rap, over-distorted rock, and cookie cutter lyrics. I now have gigabytes upon gigabytes of modern music. Coldplay was my gateway band, and this was the first album of theirs I ever owned. I love their use of piano, and Chris Martin's falsetto is mesmerizing. Clocks and The Scientist are standouts for me on this album, but every song is worth repeated listening. I strongly recommend this album, and this band.
