The second album of Ozzy Osbourne's solo career, Diary of a Madman was his last to feature the talents of guitarist Randy Rhodes, who died in a plane crash soon after the disc's release. While it's not as furious as Osbourne's first solo album, Blizzard of Ozz, it still captures Ozzy's maniacal glory. Highlights include "Over the Mountain" and the kinetic "Flying High Again," which benefit as much from Rhodes's blistering musicianship as from Ozzy's heavy, melodic songwriting. Some of the disc is burdened with overly sappy passages and obligatory ballads, but overall, Diary of a Madman is required listening for the well-heeled metalhead. The 2002 remastered reissue includes the bonus B-side, "Flying High Again" single, a live version of "I Don't Know." Following a spat between band members, the parts played originally by bassist Bob Daisley and drummer Lee Kerslake have been recorded over.I>--Jon Wiederhorn

what kind of selfish greedy sellout would actually TAMPER WITH RANDYS WORK??? oh yeah, SHARON AND OZZY OSBOURNE! i love ozzy, but really this is just sick. i cannot
beleive the selfishness and lack of respect for randy. this is horrible.

1 out of 5 stars Definately, altered garbage!   December 1, 2009

This is definitely not the original!

    It's all F'ed up!

I'm sorry I spent the $2.00 for two songs off of it. Thank God, I didn't buy the whole thing!

Maybe Sharon should stick to American Idol, or whatever amateur venue will have her, where she belongs, rather than screwing Ozzie's stuff.

You bitch, you even have Ozzy suing Tony Iommi right now on top of it all!

    What?

It's o.k. for Ozzy make your @ss mo money as a solo artist and being part of Black Sabbath, but when somebody else does it, you got some kind of problem with it.

Last minute, ditch, "retirement" grab to see if you can hord the Black Sabbath name all to yourselves with all the royalties going to your two fat, no talent, kids!

No more Ozzy puchases for me.

buy the 1992 remaster of this album, not this sacrilage that this is.if you want to re-record the album re-record it.don't just re do certain parts. in it's original form this is a bonafide 5 star release. "flying high again" and "over the mountain" are 2 of the OZZMAN'S best

The "remastering" - read butchering imposed to this metal classic by the Osbournes and/or their record company is unbelievable. Kudos for making it like s*** too. Get the original album. This is not Ozzy and will definitely remain a stain on his legacy.

1 out of 5 stars Everyone deserves their money back!   July 23, 2009

This is really pathetic. By taking a great album and stripping out the original rhythm section, they sucked out all the chemistry of the original players -- Bob Daisley and Lee Kerslake -- and, as if that weren't enough, put on inferior re-recordings that don't even do the music justice. I HATE this "remaster"!

Memo to Sharon and Ozzy: You're loaded now. Cut the crap, negotiate in good faith and reinstate the original mix. You've not only done a disservice to fans and newcomers with this sorry excuse for a remaster, but you've in effect committed fraud. Nowhere on the outer CD tray card or cover does it say that the music's been rerecorded; in other words, you have to buy it to find out. You both ought to be ashamed of yourselves.
