While Judas Priest's first three Columbia albums displayed a band that seemed musically restless and a bit wary of becoming just another rock caricature, their first official live album offers up a strong distillation of the musical sense that informed those records (along with earlier material from Sad Wings of Destiny) and is a testament to their KK Dowling/Glen Tipton fueled twin-guitar fury. The fact that vocalist Rob Halford's tracks (allegedly damaged in the recording process) were later replaced in the studio has long been a bone of contention to purists (though hardly an unusual practice in the industry), but fresh ears may find the "problem" actually resulted in a better-sounding record. More gratifying, the original album's manic sensibility has been amped even further by the inclusion of four key live, previously unreleased bonus tracks--"Rock Forever," "Delivering the Goods," "Hell Bent for Leather," and "Starbreaker." This digitally remastered edition also features new notes by the band and expanded artwork. This is Judas Priest's early arena rock at its over-the-top best: big, loud, and wholly unapologetic. --Jerry McCulley

5 out of 5 stars Judas Priest at their best!   November 6, 2009
    R. Fleurant (Hollywood, Florida United States)
This is their best live recording ever, the energy, the hunger and the drive! I've been listening to this release since it original came out, now it's remastered with bonus tracks. What more could you ask for? Enjoy!

    5 out of 5 stars Halford's Vocals Dominate   October 24, 2009

"You're in for a surprise, you're in for a SHOCKEEEEEEEEEEEERRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!" The octave that Halford hits on "The Ripper" has me questioning whether he is man or beast. Unleashed in the East is the place to start and end as far as Judas Priest live albums go. The track listing reads as a greatest hits album (Sinner, Green Manalishi, Exciter, Victim of Changes, etc). Halford's vocals are front and center throughout. KK and Glen are in top form trading off deadly licks while Ian holds down the groove. I've heard some people claim that there was excessive overdubbing on this album especially with Rob's vocals, but I say who cares? This is one cd that remains on heavy rotation in my collection. An absolute must own classic. Highest Recommendation.

    5 out of 5 stars Raw!   September 22, 2009
    Reijo Piippula (Turku, Finland)
This is the only live album that really represents the rawness of Judas Priest in their live gigs. All the other Priest live recordings - forget them. The starts is excellent - "Exciter" is one of the strongest tracks Priest has ever recorded. So sad it is the only tracks they performed from "Stained Class". I would have really loved to hear "Beyond the Realms of Death" or "Better by You, Better Than Me". Still, a perfect opener for a perfect live album. "Running Wild" is not my favorite tracks from "Killing Machine" album but I have to say that this live version is much much better! "Sinner" and "The Ripper" are perfect songs even as studio versions but the live versions are great to hear. "The Green Manalishi" and "Diamonds And Rust" are both great live tracks. Rob Halford's voice can really be high or low - it's great! Then...three songs from "Sad Wings of Destiny" to fill the perfection of the original live album: "Victim of Changes", "Genocide", and "Tyrant". Especially "Tyrant" surprised with its speed and rawness. I like the original studio version but this is so much better!

Then the bonus tracks: I love to hear them without a break! This live experience has been made so perfect! "Rock Forever", "Delivering the Goods", and "Hell Bent for Leather" which are tracks from "Killing Machine" (or "Hell Bent for Leather) are great to hear live. "Starbreaker" is however the best track from bonus tracks.

Stars: Tyrant, Victim of Changes, Exciter

5 out of 5 stars If you buy only one metal album...   August 12, 2009

Make it this one. It is quite possibly the most perfect heavy metal record ever recorded. Rob Halford makes the tracks from Sad Wings, Sin After Sin, etc. come to life. Every track is thrilling. I tried to pick my favorite track from this album, but there is no way to pick just one. Victim of Changes, Green Manalishi, Diamonds and Rust, Sinner...it's like the opposite of the Highlander: "There can only be all of them!"

5 out of 5 stars Better than the original release!   May 28, 2009
    Herbert (Salisbury, Maryland)
What I loved about this release is the bonus tracks, they really give you a better idea of JP's live show.
I cranked up the volume in my car and love it!
