Wannabe pop queen Willa Ford disses "cheesy (lyrics) about butterflies, sunshine and candy" in the liner notes of her debut album. She might actually score the attempted points against the likes of Mariah Carey and Mandy Moore if her own songs didn't cling desperately to a handful of similarly radio-ready templates. Here horny ("I Wanna Be Bad"), there bitchy ("Joke's on You"), everywhere wistfully lookin'-for-love ("Tender," "Prince Charming"), Ford hardly stakes out her own vocal turf either. She draws on third-hand Britney affectations and the occasional Carey-like dog-whistle squeal, while various production teams cobble together similarly derivative tracks. Ford's romantic fireworks with a Backstreet Boy brought her a small notoriety long before this CD's appearance, and "Tired" makes it clear that she already considers herself a big-enough name that listeners will respond to gripes about fame she hasn't yet achieved. As if. --Rickey Wright

4 out of 5 stars Nick Carter is too much man for her   October 29, 2005

She us to date Nick Carter (one of the guys fron the Backstreet Boys). People see her as a slut her lyric are saying she wants to be bad. That song was a hit. This ablum used smooth pop/R&B grooves, hot dance beats and vocoders. This ablum only reached #56 on the billboard charts which I'm glad. The song "Wanna Be Bad" was a hit song at Six Flags theme parks.

I remember this album when I was 14. I love this album. The tracks are a new brand of urban meets pop perfection. Her voice is raw and raspy, yet refined. Her songs are all about real life. This album should have been promoted more. Remember, this was 2001.

    3 out of 5 stars It's ok   June 16, 2005

2001 appeared to be Willa's year. She released a Top 10 hit single called "I Wanna Be Bad" and a decent pop album came later that July (Willa Was Here). Sadly, though, the blonde singer's release sounded too much like something Britney Spears probably ditched when making her first record, and thus kept Miss Ford on the B-list of pop stars. Her 15 minutes didn't last long, too: after having a try with "Did Ya' Understand That" Ford's time in the limelight came to an abrupt halt, proving she was just a flap in the pan. That's not to say the girl doesn't possess talent: she co-wrote every song on her CD. In the end, though, her CD stayed true to its name: Willa was here, but not anymore.

5 out of 5 stars Whattup With The Hate: Willa A Superstar!   June 4, 2005

    1) The person below is a hater. "A Toast To Men" also went top 50. I have articles to prove it (e-mail WillaFord411@Yahoo.com).

    2) Critics didn't pan the show at all, where do you get your info? "The Ultimate Fighter" got high ratings and was a top 10 reality show, which is why it wen't international. An article about it is below: “THE ULTIMATE FIGHTER” ON SPIKE TV -- A REAL RATINGS â€~CONTENDER’
    Saturday, Mar 12, 2005 @ 8:14PM
NEW YORK, NY, March 8, 2005 â€" While NBC’s Sylvester Stallone and Fox’s Oscar De La Hoya have been knocked out by dismal ratings for their highly-touted boxing-reality shows, Spike TV’s original series, The Ultimate Fighter (hosted by music queen Willa Ford) has been a smash hit for the cable network. The fact that the show a huge smash, is partcially due to the show having such an extremely talented, sexy, & controversial star, such as Willa, as the host!

The series, chronicling the quest of sixteen men from across North America in pursuit of a contract with the Ultimate Fighting Championship™, has delivered double digit gains in all key male demos. Last night, Ultimate Fighter drew a 1.6 (1.4 million) household rating, with a 1.7 (900,000) in Men 18-49, a 2.1 in Men 18-34 (554,000), and an average audience of 1.9 million viewers. Compared to last year Ultimate Fighter, is up +100% in Men 18-49, +182% in Men 18-34, and +64% in average audience.

After eight weeks, Ultimate Fighter is averaging a 1.6 (1.4 million) household rating, with a 1.7 (882,000) in Men 18-49, a 2.1 in Men 18-34 (525,000) and an average audience of 1.9 million viewers. Ultimate Fighter versus last year is up +89% in Men 18-49, +85% in Men 18-34 and +72% in average audience.

The 13-week series culminates Saturday, April 9 at 9:00pm ET/PT with a live finale from Las Vegas.

    3) "Enough To Know" wasn't a single. On amazon.com for some reason they call the Australian version of "I Wanna Be Bad" a hit, in which it also was in Australia, as well as "Willa Was Here" and "Santa Baby (Gimme Gimme Gimme)"

    4) "A Toast To Men" didn't flop! The video got spots on CBS, the song is featured in Urbz: Sims In The City, the song is a theme on Sound Garden (a big club)'s website--where it is massively played their, the single hit #1 on the Dance Radio Play, charted on Billboard's Top 200 Singles chart, and hit #1 on Billboard's Top 200 Singles Sales Chart. It also got Willa spreads in FHM, Istinct, and so forth.

    5) Willa is not a hoe! 1) She has had sex with less than 7 men in her life (check FHM) 2) She doesn't sleep with everyguy around, but knows what sells!

    6) You're a hater! And that name of yours signifies "toughness" maybe to you, but liking JoJo (Disney star and a true 1-hit-wonder) and hating on WIlla (the BAD GIRL of Pop & INTERNATIONAL TV HOST superstar) is being hypocritical.

    7) Gotta a problem, e-mail WillaFord411@Yahoo.com then leaving useless reviews. Anyone who gives your hateful lies about Willa "yes" as helpful points, is either you on a different name or another immature 10 or 11 year old white boy/girl. Go to http://www.xanga.com/WillaFord411/ --it proves the truth! Okay, featuring links and things like that.

    8) If Willa was really a 1-hit-wonder flop, why was she chosen out of all other stars who auditioned to host "The Ultimate Fighter?" Why is she playing at the Superbowl & Lingerie Bowl in 2006? Why did she get all spreads in Stuff about what she does (the only magazine JoJo is in is those pre-teen white magazines about what they like or hairstyles--useless things that prove they have no career, just to talk about their lives). JoJo can't even get 3 videos play on TV. All of Willa's videos got play on TV and charted, unlike JoJo! "Leave" was a hit. "Baby It's You" was minor. "Not That Kinda Girl" was a total flop. JoJo is a fallen star!

5 out of 5 stars Willa Has TALENT and CAN SING! GO GIRL!   April 20, 2005

After seeing her on "The Ultimate Fighter" and seeing/reading her spread in Stuff I was like "Damn...this chick is hot!!" I was really getting into her, so I decided to pick up "Willa Was Here" and several of her CD singles. The music was great and considering that I'm not much of a music fan...Willa has quickly become a new favorite!! Finally, I read the credits (hoping to see that she wasn't a fake.) NOTE: THIS IS WHAT MADE ME A BIG FAN, WHEN I READ THE CREDITS AND FOUNDED OUT THAT SHE WROTE, PRODUCED, VOCALLY ARRANGED, AND MUSICALLY ARRANGED THE ALBUM! NOT ONLY THAT, BUT HER SINGING IS AMAZING; LISTEN TO ALL OF "OOH OOH," "TENDER," & "HAUNTED HEART" (JUST TO NAME A FEW)! My advise, pick up this hit album if you don't have it! Willa is a big star and everywhere this year and I can't be more proud! You go Willa! You definately got another new fan!
