Amazon.com Review As the host of National Public Radio's weekday series Fresh Air, Terry Gross has interviewed many of the most powerful, successful, and intriguing names in contemporary arts and issues. With her reputation of unsurpassed interview skills and careful preparation, Gross enjoys the popular support of millions of listeners across the country and attracts an incredibly diverse array of guests. Collected here are 18 of her most compelling interviews, each featuring a noted figure in the area of film and television. From Audrey Hepburn to Divine, Harvey Keitel to Wallace Shawn, Mel Brooks to Francis Ford Coppola, Gross manages to engage each of her wildly disparate subjects in equally fascinating conversation, drawing them out with her intelligence, understanding, and thoughtful questions. (Running time: 3 hours, 2 cassettes) --George Laney
Product Description Combine an intelligent interviewer with a roster of guests that, according to the Chicago Tribune, would be prized by any talk show host, and you're bound to get an interesting conversation. "Fresh Air's" interviews, though, are in a category by themselves, distinguished by host and executive producer Terry Gross' unique approach. "A remarkable blend of empathy and warmth, genuine curiosity and sharp intelligence," says The San Francisco Chronicle. This three-hour long, two audiocassette program features some of Terry Gross' most entertaining interviews with actors and directors recorded during the last ten years. Hear Nicolas Cage tell what it was like to eat the cockroach in "Vampire's Kiss"; Andre Braugher discuss how Shakespeare prepared him for "Homicide"; Divine talk about his youth; and Nathan Lane examine laugh styles.

If you like the show, you'll like spending 3 hours with this November 25, 2001 13 out of 13 found this review helpful
This is a refreshing way to spend your time listening to some of the best interviews from the show. I like the show but sometimes don't have time to catch it on NPR. This audio set gives me lots of the memorable interviews I've heard or partially heard over the years. It's a great collection of some of the folks who are major influences in their work. The inquisitive and probing questions of Terry Gross really open up conversations with the likes of Tracy Ullman and Dennis Franz, they sound like us. These are wonderful snippets of real life.
