A Night Out with the Backstreet Boys is a romantic, heartfelt, and intimate live performance recorded in Germany in 1998. An introduction with members Kevin Richardson and Howie Dorough explains that the Boys have always wanted to perform for their fans and themselves in an acoustic concert. Much like the well-known MTV Unplugged series, the Backstreet Boys perform with a full orchestra and a small choir for background vocals. There is no choreography, they do mostly ballads and mid-tempo songs, and most of the time they casually sit on bar stools. The group is exposed musically, providing the opportunity to show their fans and their critics that the Backstreet Boys "really do have talent." Starting with "Who Do You Love," "As Long as You Love Me," and "10,000 Promises," there can be no mistaking that the Backstreet Boys do indeed have real musical talent. The solo section begins with Brian Littrell singing "That's What She Said/Where Can We Go from Here?" and accompanying himself on guitar, followed by A.J. McLean doing a soulful "Lay Down Beside Me." Nick Carter performs "I Need You Tonight" and Howie shines on "My Heart Stays with You." Kevin closes the solo section with a beautiful, untitled piano instrumental. Finally, the boys return to the stage for "Like a Child," the up-tempo "All I Have to Give," a medley of "If I Don't Have You/I'll Never Break Your Heart," "Quit Playing Games with My Heart," and a new arrangement of "Let's Have a Party." The stylish video versions of "All I Have to Give" and "I'll Never Break Your Heart" are also included to complete this 70-minute "night out." --Larry Clark

unplugged -- something that we wouldn't normally expect a typical 'boyband' to do. but these guys have really stepped out that norm of 'boybands' -- they have accomplished something that many others cannot even dream of.
i don't recommend this concert dvd to only bsb fans. this is for ANYONE who appreciates good music (by good music i don't mean the crap on the radio nowadays). taken place in a very intimate setting with virtually no special effects (something that sets these guys apart from other 'boybands' if you will), this show really captured the core of the backstreet boys. bottom line -- all five of 'em can (or at least could) sing really well. if you don't like boybands, that's fine, b/c this is way beyond a typical boyband's standards.
with nothing more than necessary acoustic instruments, 5 stools, and mics, bsb showed their true talents in a relaxing atmosphere that no one can deny, even if you don't like the band.
so if you'r looking for something enjoyable and relaxing -- and with great vocals -- this is the dvd to see

This DVD was recorded in 1998, so do expect it to be a little cheesey. For the more hard core fans, it would be perfect. As it's a more intimate side of BSB, there's no choreography, just plain, honest, acoustic singing. Some may be disappointed if expecting something along the lines of "Around The World". But still a must have for your collection.

I've been a fan of BSB since 1986, and I've always enjoyed their music. If you are an older fan like I am, you'll enjoy this DVD of the group at a younger age and a more intimate concert. There's no choreographed dancing and their vocal abilities are highlighted by solo performances of each "Boy". This is one to add to your collection of BSB DVDs, if you do not have it already.

I loved this video and everything about, and I highly recommend it to any backstreet boys fan.
Something that I still wonder about today is how on earth they got those girls to be quiet during the taping. I'm sure I would have never been able to do it. However they did it, it is amazing to hear them live sans thousands of screaming girls.
