5 out of 5 stars a class album by Less Than Jake   September 2, 2006
2 out of 2 found this review helpful

I've just recently gotten into this band and I have to say they are awesome! Hello Rockview is a great album that's fast, upbeat, and just overall really fun to listen to from beginning to end. Some standout tracks include "History of a Boring Town", "Scott Farcas Takes It on the Chin", and "All My Best Friends are Metalheads."

Being a ska fan, I really enjoyed the ska-punk sound of this album, and it's easily my favorite Less Than Jake album I've heard so far (my first cd was Anthem, which is also very good, but definitely lacking in ska). If you are new to LTJ, I would recommend buying this album first, along with Losing Streak, as it demonstrates the band at their best.

(Also, if you are a Less Than Jake fan and haven't seen them live, you definitely should! They are fun and energetic, and a whole lot better than most of these new bands around today.)

5 out of 5 stars Welcome to Rockview...   August 9, 2006

Ok, first off, I'm not a kid, but I don't have an account on here.

Less Than Jake's 'Hello Rockview', is a masterpiece. It kind of departs from the ska sound of their previous efforts, but not too much. Anyway, ignore that last sentance, becuase it was what almost stopped my from buying it, as I had oringinally planned to buy Pezcore and Losers, Kings, Things instead, but the store didn't have them. I was mildly dissapointed at first, but I gave it a listen, and I was blown away. So, please, do not let the 'a little less ska' convince you to not buy this.

I think one of the greatest things about this album, is that the horn parts have improved drastically. Before, the horn parts sounded almost the same throught the whole song, which got boring after a while, but they vary here, and I think it is much better. There are also more key changes, and tempos change more than previous LTJ songs. This album has 5 hornless songs, but once again, please do not let that fool you.

Last One Out of Liberty City-10/10 - A great way to start this album, the horns are great, and the bass is amazing

Help Save the Youth of America From Exploding 7/10 - A hornless song, but it's still great nonetheless. Roger plays a finger sweet finger tapping solo, but it sounds kinda just like another punk song

All My Best Friends are Metalheads 10/10 - One of the first LTJ songs people hear, and one of the best on the album. Most regognizable becuase it was on Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 4.

Five State Drive 10/10 - GREAT opening bass line here. A lot of heavy horn useage here.

Nervous In the Alley 10/10 - Doesn't use the horns as much, but is very catchy. I couldn't stop listening to it after I first bought the album. Has a synthesiser thing in it.

Motto 8/10 - Another hornless song; I tend to like this one more than Help Save the Youth... for some reason. It's the heaviest song on the album.

History of a Boring Town 8.5/10 - Ok, now I never understood why people made this song out to be at some godlike status. It's a really good song, but after reading all these good reviews about it, it can't possibly what you exepcted, and you are dissapointed at it not being as great as you were expecting.

Great American Sharpshooter 10/10 - A short, hornless song. It's super catchy, and great. It's even better than some of the songs with horns.

Danny Says 10/10 - By far, the most underrated song on the album. It's a ska song, with pretty good horns, and bassline. I don't understand why people don't like it that much.

Big Crash 11/10 - Absoultely great. Not ska, but punk with horns. Another underrated one. My second favorite song on the album. Very catchy

Theme Song for H Street 7/10 - I understand why people don't like this one as much. Not ska, but punk with horns. It isn't skippable at all, but it just isn't as good as the others.

Richard Allen George.... No, It's Just Cheez 9.5/10 - I like this song. It's a short ska song, without horns. Resembles a ska core song, but it isn't "core" enough. There's a pretty cool thing at the end too.

Scott Farcas Takes It On the Chin 15/10 - By far, the best song on the album. Everything is perfect about it. Ska song with great horns, extremly great bass, vocals, everything.

Al's War 5/10 - And we come to the end... the only skippable track I think. I don't always skip this track. But 75% of the time I do. It's hornless, and kind of boring. It brings back the fade-out ending from Pezcore though. It get's a five, mainly becuase it can usually keep my attention for a minute or so, and I like the ending.

I know, my rating isn't an average, but I belive that it is a 5 star album. It's great for any LTJ fan, if you like their newer or older stuff.

There really is no perfect time to get this album; it works great as your first, or your last LTJ album, and is definatly LTJ's best effort so far.

I will also recomend some other albums you might like if you enjoy this:

Less Than Jake-Losing Streak, Pezcore, Losers,Kings, and Things We don't Understand

The Suicide Machines- Destruction by Definition, Battle Hymns, A Match and some Gasoline

    Catch 22- Keasbey Nights

    Streetlight Manifest- Everything Goes Numb

The Aquabats- The Return of the Aquabats, The Fury of the Aquabats

    Operation Ivy- Energy

5 out of 5 stars A CD worth your money   May 16, 2006
This is a CD worth buying. I listen to it a lot and it doesn't get old. Includes cool songs like "Nervous in the Alley" and "All my Best Friends Are Metalheads" (which was feaured on Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 4"). If you like ska, punk, or just plain anything fun to listen to, get this CD. Every song on here is worth listening to.

5 out of 5 stars Not really ska   April 11, 2006

When i think of Less than Jake i really dont think of ska too much just really good punk music with a touch of ska. The reason is if you listen to early catch 22.....er wait scratch that how bout we just go streetlight manifesto since tom was the real brains behind thier success and he redid Keasbey Nights and made his own original alblum better than nething catch 22 ever did even with him in it. And then theres reel big fish now those are truly ska bands. which makes since LTJ was everyones first taste of ska until they went on to truly ska music. I mean even NOFX busts out a horn now and then. LTJ is a great fun band and if you like ne of the bands i metioned u should at least give em a try.

5 out of 5 stars One of Their Best   February 1, 2006

This CD is amazing. Right off the bat Last One Out of Liberty City gets you going with the amazing bass line. Then songs like Scott Farcas Takes it on the Chin have super catchy horns that just make you jump up and dance. All My Best Friends Are Metalheads is also an amazing song. This album starts a trend that was seen in all the albums after this one as well, that is Roger, the bass player, sings lead more than he usually has before. This adds some different flavor to songs and sounds really good. Chris does amazing vocals as well, but the change just spices it up. Cool album, i say buy it.
