This is an alright album. Albeit not the best of there work but still nice tolisten to if u don't mind low quality. The recording could have been lots better but its a decent sound

    5 out of 5 stars ill   June 26, 2007

This is the beast of the cradle. Their self titled album is so dark and blood srricken. Thats all there is to it, a must have if a cradle of filth

3 out of 5 stars This album is fine!   February 26, 2007

Despite the negative comments certain people have left, I believe this album to be fine. It's very atmospheric and the vocals don't sound too much different. It's a first release, so obviously it isnt as good as some of their later albums but really it isnt that bad. And in response to that comment about the keyboards sounding like carnival music: They definitely do not. Far from carnival music actually. Guess that person doesnt know his sounds very well.

5 out of 5 stars Absolutely Beautiful   February 21, 2007

Take no heed to the word of Cradle-haters. I love Emperor, Enslaved, Darkthrone(Blaze thru Transilvanian), and other such "true black metal" bands, but I like them for their music, not how "black" they are.
This album is quite amazing, and is instantly comparable to the subsequent three albums. The production is rather muted, but relatively clear nonetheless. It's more raw than later Cradle, but that is the very attraction behind this album; it provides for just the cold edge the music calls for. There is a huge amount of emotion in the songwriting, which defines its beauty.
Principle falls short of the intricate perfection of Cruelty, Dusk, or Vempire, but fans of those albums will certainly love this. The only reason they wore corpsepaint on Principle is circumstance of the time - anything not black-and-white in 1994 would have been discredited.

2 out of 5 stars Inexplicably overrated   January 15, 2007

Cradle of Filth has got to be the most overrated band of all time. Just looking at the rating they have here on Amazon is a good indicator of that.

Note to everyone: do NOT buy this album. There are better albums out there. If you want good black metal, perhaps Emperor's "Nightside Eclipse" is a better place to start.

Seriously, I'm warning you, this album sucks.
