Product Description Hendrix plays the blues in this recording that spans his legendary career and features eight previously-unreleased performances. No Track Information Available Media Type: CD Artist: HENDRIX,JIMI Title: BLUES Street Release Date: 04/26/1994 Domestic Genre: ROCK/POP
Amazon.com After the disorganized and often unlistenable Alan Douglas-produced reissues in the '70s and '80s, MCA has been releasing the vast Hendrix archives in an intelligent and methodical manner. Blues is a perfect example, making the case that--on top of everything else--Jimi Hendrix was one fine blues guitarist. Combining the fluid lines of B.B. King with the spikiness of Hubert Sumlin and the crying tone of Elmore James with his usual synapse-frying intensity, Hendrix manages to both honor the music tradition while remaining uniquely himself. These studio outtakes and warm-ups (plus one previously released track, the magnificent "Hear My Train a Comin'") include a playful "Mannish Boy," the slow burn of "Once I Had A Woman," and a metallic "Bleeding Heart." --Steven Mirkin

Not a Blues CD January 2, 2010 S. Clarke (Philadelphia) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I like some of Hendrix's stuff a lot, but this is not one of his better efforts. It's certainly not a blues CD. There are some good tracks on it, but too many mediocre tracks. And lastly, it is NOT a blues CD.
Great Blues Album December 9, 2009 Brian Clayburn This is a great album for blues guitar players. Jimi has a great way of pulling unique riffs that sound great with traditional blues songs. Personally, I'm walking thru each song and exploring how Jimi moves thru various blues riffs. I highly reccomend this album for anyone who appreciates blues and especially for musicians.
As Bad As It Gets... meaning its Great November 24, 2009 Edward Z. Rosenthal (Collingswood, NJ, USA) As butchered as this Alan Douglas Frankenstein Monster is, it still ranks as one of the greatest examples of American Rock Blues. Alan Douglas cut and pasted together some of the takes to form unreal, unnatural tunes that exist only as freakish oddities. But, the parts and pieces that Idiot Douglas had at his disposal are so outrageously fantastic that the Creatures Alan managed to assemble give little clue as to what abominations they may be. What I'm saying is, is that Hendrix's playing is so phenomenal on these various takes that it completely overshadows A-Hole Alan's silly tamperings. If the Intro to "Electric Church" is from the previous week's show, who cares. Jimi would be saying something just as wild and clever at next week's show, and the next. And if the drums are tweaked here or bass boosted too much there, well, those are just superficial concerns compared to the draw dropping depths of Jimi's soul as expressed through his unrivaled guitar mastery.
The point of this collection is to highlight Jimi's blues talent, and it does so exceptionally well; his modernized, electrified, psychadelicized version of the blues, that is. "Born Under A Bad Sign" is a towering monument to Jimi's genius. It's not 1930s Robert Johnson plucking on a worn wooden box, it's Post Nuclear Super Rock Star Showmanship. American men had landed on the moon and Jimi was using this remarkable vantage point to say something about his country and the world. You know, the old phrase "They can put a man on the moon, but they can't..." - They can't get past racism, prejudice, inequality, war, violence, greed, jealousy, stupidity, etc... It's in all of his music, if you care to hear it, and it's in these songs in astonishing profusion.
Jimi Hendrix November 22, 2009 Ralph Bartlett (Miami Fl.) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I came across this album while surfing the web. I had never heard of it before, even though I was quite familiar with Jimi's body of work. I was glad to find it at Amazon, especially since noone else I tried seemed to have it.
Overall, I was quite pleased. I love to listen to the blues, and I always liked Jimi on guitar. He did nothing to disappoint me here, and I'm sorry I didnt know about this album decades ago. I was somewhat dismayed, however by his ninr minute plus jam titled "Born Under a Bad Sign" which had no vocal, and little, if any, of the melody of the song.
The BLUES & Jimi Hendrix September 22, 2009 B. klatt (Canada) This is one GREAT CD from the Master of the Stratocaster. GREAT versions of old BLUES tunes from the late GREAT Jimi Hendrix!
