    Amazon.com essential recording
Nimrod came along two years after 1995's Insomniac and was the first indication of Green Day's willingness to stretch the boundaries of punk rock. The fullness of the record is first hinted at on "Hitchin' a Ride," which starts out chug-a-lugging and then breaks into a raging rocker."Redundant" is accented with some psyched-out guitar work and has Billie Joe Armstrong singing a good deal more than usual. The wonderful "Platypus (I Hate You)" speed-rocks with abandon and recalls the early days of L.A. punk (a little Dickies here, a little Descendents there). The biting "Take it Back" is a snarling throwback to hard punk, and "Prosthetic Head" is an infectious ditty that counts among the very best on the album. Most surprising is "Last Ride In," an instrumental nod to the sensual surf-and-sun life. Of course, the crown jewel of the collection is the sentimental, acoustic "Good Riddance (Time of Your Life)," which seemed nearly inescapable when it was released. Beyond these standouts, even the "usual" Green Day fare here has punch. --Lorry Fleming

2 out of 5 stars green day nimrod   August 25, 2009
    Nawin Kumar (U.S.A)
Well first I have to say I am not into green day's old stuff. Anyways so I bought this cd from best buy and when I got home got it on my ipod nano 4g. So I started listening to it and thought that it take some time to get used to but it has been a year of constantly trying to listen to it and I think its just good. Sure I found three songs I really liked but nothing else I could really relate of have fun with listening to. Anyways I would not get nimrod if you like 21st century breakdown.

5 out of 5 stars Diversity is the spice of music, even with Green Day!   May 15, 2009

Some bands have become successful by sticking to one formula and using it with each album, because they have a certain sound you can never really tire of. Green Day is essentially one of those bands, but on "Nimrod" they really show how great they can sound by spicing up their songs with different sounds.
Of course we have timeless Green Day anthems like "Nice Guys Finish Last", "The Grouch" and "Prosthetic Head", but then we get to other great songs on the album. There's a cool little violin intro on "Hitchin' A Ride" which is a super-sexy swinging anthem about drinking. Then we have the classic, acoustic ballad of "Good Riddance (Time Of Your Life)". Nothing really needs to be said about that song because basically everybody knows it. But THEN we get a real treat, the instrumental, hypnotic, three-minute "Last Ride In". It's got such a late-night, relaxed California sound to it, it's dazzling.
Well that's basically a brief run-through of some of the songs. Honestly, all the songs on here are really good and I definitely recommend getting this album for more great Green Day. Plus, it'll give you a chance to hear how they can experiment and still maintain their classic sound. Thanks for the time, and peace!

5 out of 5 stars Great Album!!!   April 15, 2009
Great Album!!! Has great songs! Some of the songs are in International Superhits! but there is a lot more good songs actually in the album!

P.S. Listen to "King for a day"! Funny!

3 out of 5 stars "Dead skin on trial..."   March 17, 2009
    ADRIENNE MILLER (TENNESSEE)
Nimrod by Green Day is a good album but not their best. Songs like Nice Guys Finish Lasts, Redundant, Time of Your Life, and Hitchin' A Ride were some of the songs released from this album, all are very good and catchy. The rest of the tracks are ok but too short and pointless. American Idiot is a fantastic album, I recommend that one instead.

5 out of 5 stars Green Day's skills shine on Nimrod   August 31, 2008
    The Sound

Green Day is probably one of the top 5 bands of the past 15 years, easily. Their consistent releases and strong variety always keep the listeners on their toes, never knowing what might come next, but when it does, it's always something strong and powerful. When Green Day began with their first record, 1039/Smoothed Out Slappy Hours, the band showed massive potential with frontman and guitarist Billie Joe Armstrong leading the charge with clever, catchy hooks and infectiously hard and fast guitar lines. After talented bassist Mike Dirnt and energetic Tre Cool rounded out the band's famous three-man lineup, the real talent of this East Bay, California trio really shone. After the band took another step forward with Kerplunk, this set the stage for their massive breakthrough 1994 album, Dookie. The widely successful singles, Longview, Basketcase, and When I Come Around helped show the band's real talents and made them world-famous. The follow-up album, Insomniac, saw the band explore a more punk-edged sound, showing off the band's ability to blend break-neck guitar speed with catchy rhythms and hooks. Insomniac is a heavily underrated album and I believe it challenges Dookie as Green Day's greatest album. And that brings us to 1997's Nimrod. This record has Green Day exploring brand new territory and showing off a softer side on some of the songs, which they do effortlessly and with much skill. The great thing about this album is that it has something of everything. Fast turbo charged punk, got it. Acoustic, memorable melodies, check. Catchy, regular feel-good rock tunes, check and check. Green Day as a band is still continuing the powerful evolution into music greatness and there's no telling how high their potential can be. Outstanding work by a fantastic rock band.
