    Editorial Reviews:

    Amazon.com essential recording
Fleetwood Mac's 1997 reunion could have been the kind of event that works on video--great concert, after all--but ends up not paying off in repeated listenings on CD. But The Dance, while concentrating on the group's '70s and '80s triumphs, finds the Mac energy running high and impassioned. New songs like "Temporary One" and "Bleed to Love Her" are fine additions to the canon, while "Everywhere" and "Say You Love Me" both breeze along the way you remember them and manage a reinvention in the live setting. The dark side of the vision is accounted for with Lindsey Buckingham's crazed solo "Big Love," but best of all is "Silver Springs," wherein Stevie Nicks tears the roof off the sucker and sets fire to the rubble. --Rickey Wright

5 out of 5 stars Fleetwood Mac Reunion Shows Them Back At The Top Of Their Game   November 25, 2009
The Footpath Cowboy (Kingston, NY United States)
THE DANCE, Fleetwood Mac's reunion of their classic 70s lineup, features the band at their best since 1982's MIRAGE. The songs are all incredibly performed, even if "Silver Springs" as rendered here lacks the holiday-bell piano effects of the studio version (available on THE VERY BEST OF FLEETWOOD MAC) and Lindsey Buckingham's voice has coarsened a bit over time. The difference in the melody of "The Chain" is an accommodation to the changes in Buckingham's voice. The fact that the members of this lineup of Fleetwood Mac have supported efforts to free people jailed on false charges in countries not their own makes this CD an essential purchase for both your ears AND your conscience.

5 out of 5 stars Live album full of energy and joy   September 3, 2009
    M. F. Lee (Duluth, MN USA)
Ten years ago, having seen the PBS special of this concert, I immediately bought the disc then loaned it out shortly thereafter; I haven't seen it since. One can hardly blame them because it's a towering collection of musicality, soul wrenching vocals and electric guitar heaven. There is a resonant vibe from a live performance you don't get on studio albums, vividly apparent from beginning to end.
I wasn't a big Fleetwood Mac fan in the seventies when they first came on the scene; for some reason this album grabbed me by the hips and heart and is one of my favorites. The two songs featuring the UCLA marching band should be required listening for Monday mornings, the first day of school, before a trip to the dentist etc....endorphin inducing grooves.

4 out of 5 stars The Mac are BACK   July 10, 2009

As an owner both the CD and DVD of "The Dance" I feel compelled to review both.... I truly enjoy both versions but the CD is missing things the DVD has..."Gold Dust Women" which was one of Stevie's better performances of the night and Chrissy's encore of "Songbird" (one of the most beautiful songs ever written)If I had to pick the 3 best songs on here they would have to be "I'm So Afraid" (Showcasing the amazing talent Lindsey has on the guitar, the best part is how after the song intro you can hear someone yell "Go Lindsey" before he kicks back in)"Landslide" (this has got to be the best Stevie has ever performed this song. Its especially touching when you hear them thank each other and "Silver Spring" this is a grammy nominated performance and rightfully so. Stevie pours every ounce of emotion in her into this song, most evident towards the end during her improvising while Lindsey and Chrissy sing the chorus. The other tracks are all wonderful listens as well but these three are THE stand out tracks. This is a historical night as this would be one of the "big 5" would perform on stage again (Chrissy soon after this retired from touring) As an owner of both I would say...go with the DVD. It has the whole show which is why I only gave this 4 stars and not 5, the fact it was missing "Gold Dust" and "Songbird"

4 out of 5 stars Still Great After All These Years (with apologies to Paul Simon)   March 12, 2009
    Karen in San Rafael, CA
I saw the reunion performance of Fleetwood Mac on PBS many years ago and loved it. So I had to get this CD. I guess we have Bill Clinton to thank for reuniting the band when he chose "Can't Stop (Thinkin' About Tomorrow)" as his campaign theme. It isn't Fleetwood Mac's "greatest hits" but almost, and being a live performance has an energy that studio tracks just don't have. Also, the new songs are good, and the additional of the UC Marching Band is a hoot!

This album is from the video soundtrack "The Dance". If you enjoyed this video you will enjoy this album in your car while driving. Good quality audio for the most part.
