| Editorial Reviews:
Amazon.com Thanks to the long shadow cast by the group's blockbuster Rumours, this 1987 effort was inevitably regarded as something of a letdown. That's too bad, since it's an underrated set that contains plenty of inventively catchy tunes, with a quirky sonic edge that gives the songs added sonic and emotional depth. Lindsey Buckingham's eccentric, vaguely menacing "Big Love" is a standout, as is Christine McVie's brightly bittersweet "Little Lies," along with such dark-horse winners as "Seven Wonders," "Caroline," "Mystified," and Stevie Nicks's typically mystical "Welcome to the Room ... Sara." --Scott Schinder

This is A easy listen project from Fleetwood Mac.The best song is Seven Wonders preformed by Stevie Nicks.
three solo artists. December 24, 2009 D. Moses (London, London United Kingdom) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I have only recently been introduced to Fleetwood Mac, and, so far, have only listened to this album and the exceptional 'rumours' album 10 years previous to this. This is a completely different album, more of an '80s style, and I feel that the three songwriters of the group could easily have written their songs for respective solo albums. My opinions on the songs has little bias, as I know nothing about the writers Buckingham, McVie and Nicks.
Buckingham contributes my favourite track to the album. From reading other reviews, my opinion is contentious, but I don't care. 'Family Man' has a catchy melody and I love the flamenco like guitar refrains. It is silly in a really joyful way and the track really uplifts me. His other contributions vary. 'Tango in the night' is a clever little ditty, with atmospheric verses and a fantastic chorus with really powerful guitar power chords. 'Caroline' didn't appeal to me at first, but I can't seem to get the chorus out of my head. Great melody line on the chorus.
'Big Love' I just don't like. I know I'm in a minority, but I just can't enjoy the stocatto sections and the melody and lyrics seem trite to me.
McVie seems to have that silken voice I really like and her voice is really suited to the ballads she sings here. I knew 'Everywhere' before the album of course, and I love the twinkly ambience produced. This is a beautiful track. 'Little lies' is more of a group effort with lots of harmony vocals from the group and I love the melody, it is timeless. 'Isn't it midnight' is more rocky, but only a bit, it is still dominated by McVie's melodic voice and has a great melody.
Buckingham and McVie also collaborate on songs and the results are always winners. 'You and I Part 2' (where is part 1, a b-side or previous album maybe??) is such a sweet song. It, like 'family man' has a simple feel good factor and Buckingham sings with great joviality. What a great tune. 'Mystified' is another ballad in McVie's style and she sings it beautifully. I love the harmony vocals on the title. I have to say the lyrics make me gag, too 'pretty darling' for me.
So that leaves Nicks's contributions. And they are diabolical. I am sure she was talented, and had a nice voice, as I enjoyed 'Dreams' which I think is her singing (?) Her voice sounds like it was ripped apart and shredded, then stuffed back into her throat. I understand from what I read, that she was in rehab, and therefore only wrote two songs for the album (and sings a third), well, with respect, I think she shouldn't have bothered, as she ruins an otherwise near perfect album. The chord progressions and backing tracks in 'Seven Wonders' and 'Welcome to the room...Sara' are appealing, but as soon as her voice comes in, it completely destroys the songs.
I left the song 'When I see you again' until last. Oh my Word. This really is the worst thing I have heard in ages. McVie should have sung it, and it may have been half decent. When Nicks starts singing over the acoustic arrangement, her voice is so exposed and it is foul. But when we get to the chorus and her repetition of 'what's the matter baby', it is so bad it just makes me wonder why they put this on the album, as it is so blatantly bad. I always have a good laugh towards the end of the track (if I ever get that far), when she seems to stop singing for no good reason and the repetitious guitar carries on and Buckingham finishes the song. I think she probably just walked off!
Most people who defend Nicks here are probably doing so out of loyalty to the band or because they are so familiar with the songs.
A lovely album with very catchy songs, marred by Nicks's songs, Best track: Family Man.
Worst Tracks: Nicks
another total classic August 25, 2009 AlexM (Seattle, WA) yes my friends, this band has done it again. any doubt that this band lost it after tusk will be comforted after one listen of little lies. or seven wonders. the album is total cheesy 80's pop....it sounds very dated and hasnt aged as well as some of their other releases. but its still the same magic. my lord...only fleetwood mac could produce a song like everywhere. yes, some of stevies contributions are blah. much has been said about welcome to the room sara and when i see you again...and to be honest these tracks are perfectly acceptable as filler. but stevie nicks kills it on seven wonders. this album seems to me, most of all like a lindsay buckingham solo album, except listenable and actually good. sorry lindsay. its not rockabilly or summery rock, but more 80's synth pop.
a weird, dated, awkward, totally sappy and corny album but its very wonderful nonetheless and stands strong alongside rumors and tusk.
The best pop-rock CD I've heard in my life January 22, 2009 Guaracy Bueno (BRAZILIA, DISTRITO FEDERAL Brazil) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
The "Tango In The Night" album is a must, its twelve hits are a real masterwork of the pop-rock universe. My favorite songs are "Everywhere" and "Little Lies", both recordings having an outstanding combination of synthesizer & vocal performances. It's a pity that songs like these don't figure no more in the Billboard Hits Parade...
Classic Mac January 11, 2009 CaliD 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Tango In The Night is classic pop era Fleetwood Mac. For me, the Christine McVie songs stand out among a solid, well crafted album. I've never grown tired of Everywhere, Mystified and Little Lies.
