Amazon.com With Load, Metallica takes a dramatic left turn with their music, continuing in the direction suggested by Metallica, their previous album. The songs on Load have groove; they're slower, with far fewer of the lightning-fast riffs that have been Metallica's trademark since their inception. While songs like "Ain't My Bitch" and "Wasting My Hate" are up-tempo and full of the vitriol one would expect from the quintessential heavy metal band, "2 X 4" is hard rock with a blues beat, "Hero of the Day" sounds positively mainstream, and "Mama Said" is an actual, honest-to-god ballad. While some diehard fans may find this mix unappealing, there's plenty to like about this album, including its laid-back, rhythmic orientation, and James Hetfield's characteristic growl tempered by his growing maturity as a vocalist. -- Genevieve Williams

Metallica-Load- A Load of Garbarge. Sadly no Longer the Metallica of Old. September 15, 2009 Jose Lopez (Miami,Florida USA) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
Sometimes , the times change, and change for the worst, Load, Was a Load of *!*% sadly. a good song here or there. and yes acoustic was good, but really growing up On Master Of Puppets ,And Justice..And Black Album Tapes... Then this comes .. Made me sad, To top it off, the haircuts which were probably needed added more, and then much later the napster ordeal. made me Mad at Metallica. I now occasionally listen to them, the old stuff, maybe st.anger. Which Was better than this. But Buy their stuff again not sure. Aww those good Old Days 93-97 in Middle School listening TO Metallica, Danzig, Misfits, And Samhain.(I have Metallica to thank for Intro to the others).
Different isn't necessarily bad August 20, 2009 Nick (NH, USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Too many people dis this album because they say Metallica sold out. But this album has some excellent songwriting--Bleeding Me is one of Metallica's best songs ever. And Hetfield's vocals are, I think, in the best shape ever on this album.
At least they got the album title right. August 14, 2009 Deimos (Alberta) 1 out of 3 found this review helpful
This album is a total LOAD. Metallica sells out part II. Part III would soon follow. The cover is aparently some guys semen and cows blood squeezed between plexiglass.....I would rather buy the cum stained plexiglass then listen to this garbage.

The cd's great came in just in time no scratches of any kind nothing more or less.
Looking back, this album rules. June 27, 2009 Timothy C. Sorweid (San Diego, CA) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I'd like to first apologize to Metallica for giving this album so much flack upon initial release. Being a hardcore Metallica fan something about the new logo, the short hair, and Until it Sleeps that really struck a negative chord with me. I wanted another Kill 'em All, and was initially disappointed.
Sitting here today, a decade older I can't say how much I love this album. 70% of these songs are absolutely fantastic, and though it was a different Metallica sound it was a unique & creative sound that stacks up there with some of their greatest material.
The House that Jack Built, Bleeding Me, Ronnie, Outlaw Torn, & others are so enjoyable that its hard to imagine why we were all so negative back in the 90s. I'd love to see another album with the same song quality, sorry Re-Load sucked.
