One Of Her Strongest Albums! October 17, 2009 CountryGal (Ireland) This is definitely one of my favorite Chely Wright albums.Every song on here is a real gem!!
With a great traditional yet commercial 90's sound and her beautiful country voice, you simply can't go wrong with this.
From her great uptempos like Heart Shaped World,Right In The Middle Of It and the extremely catchy Alligator Purse.
But with Chely's voice she always shines the most on the ballads, like the beautiful Love That We Lost,The Love He Left Behind,The Other Woman and the great It's Not Too Late.
I can't recommend this album enough. It's simply fantastic and definitely one of her best....
Wright stuff August 6, 2007 Gen X Music Addict (Minnesota) This is a good country/poppish album from Chely WRight. An enjoyable listen. Light-hearted and winsome tunes alternate wiht more soulful songs. Pleasant and fun to listen to; nothing really outstanding.
Not quite Wright. July 11, 2004 3 out of 6 found this review helpful
Buy used and as cheap as possible If you are a member of the Chely cult you may like this album. But for the rest of us who expect more you will be disappointed. Not Chely Wrights best work.
Sophomore Album Jinx July 4, 2004 2 out of 5 found this review helpful
Not good at all clearly a step down for Chely Wright from her first album.
Upbeat contemporary country rooted in tradition May 11, 2004 Peter Durward Harris (Leicester England) 6 out of 7 found this review helpful
This was the second of five albums that Chely recorded for Polydor and MCA before they parted company. It was her fourth, Single white female, that gave her recognition but this album, though not quite up to that standard, is brilliant in its own way. It also sounds more traditional than Single white female, although it still has a contemporary feel to it.Most of the songs are upbeat, including the ballads. None of the songs are well known, though it is possible that you might know What I've learned from loving you - it is a cover of a Lynn Anderson song from 1983 that Kenny Rogers also covered for his album, We've got tonight. Actually, it seems an odd choice of song for brown-eyed Chely. Hearing her sing about her eyes turning a deeper shade of blue doesn't sound quite right. Nevertheless, she sings the song superbly. Heart shaped world is NOT the same song that Jessica Andrews recorded. Tracy Byrd co-wrote It's not too late, but I can't find it on any of his albums. Following the commercial failure of this album, Chely moved from Polydor to the parent MCA and also changed producers. It proved to be the right move but this is a fine album that deserves to be heard.
