    Product Description
An advice-from-the-trenches cancer survival guidebook for young women with cancer.

Actress and photographer Kris Carr thought she had a hangover, but a Jivamukti yoga class didn't provide its usual kick-ass cure. A visit to her doctor confirmed her "liver looked like Swiss cheese," covered with cancerous tumors. She entered trench warfare (wearing cowboy boots into the MRI machine, no less), vowing, "Cancer needed a makeover and I was just the gal to do it!" She began writing and filming her journey, documenting her interactions with friends, doctors, alternative "quacks," blind dates, and other women with cancer--sadly a growing group. These include hip, young women such as illustrator-author Marisa Acocella Marchetto (Cancer Vixen), Glamour writer-editor Erin Zammett (My So-Called Normal Life), MTV personality Diem Brown (Real World/Road Rules Challenge), model Sharon Blynn (founder, Bald Is Beautiful), and music manager Jackie Farry, among others.

The Learning Channel is broadcasting the premiere of Carr's unforgettable documentary, Crazy Sexy Cancer on August 29, 2007 @ 9:00-11:00pm (ET/PT).

CRAZY SEXY CANCER TIPS gathers the lessons learned and advice offered from Carr's own journey, as well as the experiences of her cancer posse. Full-color photos accompany personal stories and candid revelations in this scrapbook of advice, warnings, and resources for the cancer patient. Chapters cover your changing social life, dating, sex, and appearance; essential health tips on how to boost your immune system; recipes; medical and holistic resources; and information on young survivor support groups. The resulting book is a warm, yet informative tool for any woman newly diagnosed with the disease and for those who love them.

1 out of 5 stars Must be nice to be a rich and "unsick" cancer patient   February 26, 2010

First of all, I have a bad case of "chemo brain" right now so please forgive my bad spelling. This book would be helpful if I seemed to have the unlimited access to money that Mrs. Carr seems to have. I would love to be able to go on a "cancervation" to my favorite bed and breakfast. Who's going to pay for it? The parts about shopping therapy were a laugh riot..-_-. Oh, that trip to Whole Foods to replace everything white and processed in my pantry. YEAH, because we all know cancer survivors are SUPPOSED to be VEGANS right? I wish I lived in such an idyllic world. Where I could just go to upstate New York and hike my troubles away. Wait.. what troubles does Kris Carr have? Well a rare form of cancer yes, but is she sick? Is she on chemo? Radiation? No wait.. she doesn't even FEEL sick and is having NO TREATMENT? Then who is she to give me tips on dealing with the days and nights of side effects of chemo? No one that's who. If you wanted mindless pandering by all means.. buy this book.

4 out of 5 stars A cancer resource for the young and open-minded   September 3, 2009

I'd heard so much about this book and DVD on the 'cancer support' blogs that I wanted to read the book and see the DVD; and was so pleased to get both at such a good price. The attitude is very uplifting for a person experiencing cancer, as long as you can accept the author's 'non-religious' way of dealing with her diagnosis. Some readers with cancer may not be able to accept a person who didn't have to have surgery, chemo or radiation as representative of their own cancer journeys, and may not relate to this author. Most of the author's avant garde diet and bowel cleansing routines to hold her cancer at bay were over the top for me, but if you have an open mind and are able to read around her ideas you disagree with, there are many good tips and life-affirming philosophies that make this a worthwhile read for a cancer patient/survivor.

4 out of 5 stars Highly recommended   June 3, 2009

I bought this for my sister who was diagnosed with cancer. It was recommended by my daughter-in-law as she had seen it on TV and thought it might be useful. My sister reported that it is indeed useful and is among the things cancer patients should read.

Kris Carr has written a wonderful book that explores her journey of self discovery. Whether you have cancer, have a loved one with cancer or just want to make yourself and your planet healthier, this is the best starting point you can choose.

5 out of 5 stars Great reading for those that have cancer   April 18, 2009

I'm a hairdesgner and do wigs for those that have or are undergoing cancer treatments. Of course the loss of hair is the first sign of a change in a persons looks and I try to make that feeling less painful by designing a wig that looks natural thereby making the client feel better about themselves. I give my clients the book because the attitude of the author is something that I feel is worth sharing. I have purchased many books and will continue to do so as long a I feel it is helpful in bringing a smile to their faces.
