    Product Description
In the follow-up to his award winning national bestseller, Letters to a Young Brother, actor and star of CSI: NY shares his powerful wisdom for young women everywhere, drawing on the courageous advice of the female role models who transformed his life.

Letters to a Young Sister unfolds as a series of letters written by older brother Hill to a universal Young Sistah. She s up against the same challenges as every young woman: from relating to her parents and dealing with peer pressure, to juggling schoolwork and crushes and keeping faith in the face of heartache. In his straight-talking style, Hill helps his young sister build self-confidence, self-reliance, self-respect, and encourages her on her journeys towards becoming a strong and successful woman. The book also includes contributions from admirable women like Angela Basset, Ciara, Michelle Obama, Tatyana Ali, Nikki Giovanni, Congresswoman Carolyn Cheeks Kilpatrikck, Eve, Malinda Williams, Kim Porter, and more.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent Read!   June 7, 2009
    TDL (Washington DC)
I bought this book last year for my daughter's 16th Birthday. The book was a perfect fit for her party because her theme was a "Purple party," the same color as the book cover. I have just recently purchased this book again for my goddaughter.

I was very excited that Hill Harper has written a book for girls as I have purchased the book, "Letters to a Young Brother" for my son and nephew a few years ago. I highly recommend "Young Sister" for all young girls. It's a great insight from a positive male perspective, informative, and contains valuable lessons.

4 out of 5 stars Great for Young Ladies!   February 17, 2009
    C. Rawlins (Missouri)
I work with young ladies for a mentoring program and they chose this book. It was a great way to open up discussion and address topics that are difficult to get young ladies to talk about. Great for group discussions and book groups.

5 out of 5 stars Letters to a Sister young or old, black, white, spanish , or any race   January 8, 2009

5 out of 5 stars An Outstanding Book for Women of ALL Ages   December 14, 2008
    Pamela Simmons (Atlanta, GA)
In Letters to a Young Sister: DeFINE Your Destiny, Hill Harper offers the male perspective on issues that affect most teenage girls today. In his classic "big brotherly" way, he guides the reader through a series of letters that he exchanges with a teenage girl who is trying to navigate the ups and downs of high school, family life and relationships, in the era of "texting," "Facebooking" and MySpacing."

Mr. Harper enlists the wisdom of some of the most successful women in the world such as First Lady Michelle Obama, Cathy Hughes and Gabriel Union, who offer words of encouragement that inspire the reader to reach for the stars. Letters to a Young Sister is a great read and is an outstanding book for girls of all ages.

5 out of 5 stars To Be or Not to Be   November 12, 2008
The RAWSISTAZ Reviewers (RAWSISTAZ.com and BlackBookReviews.net)
Hill Harper has written a powerful follow-up to his first book, Letters to a Young Brother. By writing a book specifically for the young sister, LETTERS TO A YOUNG SISTER, which include relevant information that most sisters face as they mature to adulthood. Like a loving big brother, Hill has answered the many questions young women have asked him via email. He accents his letters with advice and information from successful and famous women. Letters from Michelle Obama, Eve, Gabrielle Union, Ruby Dee and so many others, answer the questions that are posed to Hill. Providing advice to help build self-esteem and to give confidence and assurance to teens, Hill has provided a handbook for teens to reference over and over.

Issues such as love, handling family problems, and advice on what to look for in a date, are just a short list of topics that are addressed in his book. Hill Harper, and the women he handpicked, used their experiences to share with the sisters.

Hill Harper writes books for teenagers to inspire change and instill a positive self-esteem in those who need help navigating through their difficult teenage years. Although much of the information provided is not new, the manner in which the questions are addressed is so refreshing that you are sure to find the spark to inspire and to uplift hurting souls.

I recommend this book for teens, mothers and even young men based on the concept that when much information is given, much is learned and lives can be improved.
