| Editorial Reviews:
Product Description Dragonflight and Dragonquest are the first two installments of McCaffrey's most popular series about the Dragonriders of Pern. In these epic fantasies, Lessa emerges from hiding after ten long Turns, ready to reclaim her brithright, impress the Dragon Queen, and eventually become Weyrwoman of Benden. As the deadly Threads begin to turn again, the bold dragonriders take to the air, belching flames that destroy the strands before they touch the ground. Anne McCaffrey is the winner of the Hugo Award, the Nebula Award, and the Margaret Edwards Lifetime Achievement Award. "Few are better at mixing elements of high fantasy and hard science fiction...." -- The New York Times Book Review

So unique and dfferent it stole my heart May 15, 2005 Dragon Quill (CA, USA) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
So how does a book and an author become a personal obsession? Read these books, or indeed any of Anne McCaffery's dragon books, and you'll find out for yourself. So what makes these books so good? They're unique. There's little or nothing in them that I've seen in other books and stories. The characters are unforgetable, and indeed so rememberable I once considered naming one of future my kids after one. So, compared to other books, where does this one lie? It's a completely, totatly different type of story than the Lord of the Rings, yet, Anne McCaffery is the master if the sci-fi fantasy field just as Tolkien is of sheer fantasy. Just as Tolkien is fantasy king, so is McCaffery. But for the record: they are completely different books. In sixth grade, when I first read these novels, I wrote a poem about them, all of them. And for the record, in one of the more recent additions, I cried for hours, it seemed. Don't miss out on the first two books you should read of this unbelievable tale of time, dragons, and love. After you read these two, you'll be forever hooked, forever a fan, because these books steal hearts.

Hard to follow July 11, 2002 0 out of 8 found this review helpful
This is the first fantasy style book that I tried reading. I got about half way through the first one, when I realized that I had no idea what they were talking about, and I didn't care.If you can find another book that can explain the infrastructure and environment of this world of Pern, it may be a lot easier to follow.
Pern is a world where I would choose to live. May 10, 1997 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
If you like a world where people are honest and you can talk to dragons this book is for you. Ms. McCaffery takes you on dragon wings through killer rain, dragon hatchings and rediscovery of technologies. I love this and all the "Pern" books
