Something NEW for my cookie jar. January 10, 2010 Sharon Coker (Chesterfield MO) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
Cookie Swap by Julia Usher is a great new addition to my cookbooks. Not only are the cookies pretty and cute but they taste better than they look. Most pretty cookies and pastries are just so so in taste but not true with Julia's creations.
I had not been introduced to cookie stenciling and this book makes it easy. Website to find the cookie cutters and stencils are included along with the recipes.
I made the witches fingers because they looked cute. What a surprise when they were one of the best cookies I have ever eaten. My family loved them and ask for the recipe. Julia also includes many other ideas for invitations and decorating ideas it is the perfect springboard for the creative person.
I can't wait for book 2, 3,and 4. This author has alot to share.
The best cookie cookbook !!! January 10, 2010 Lori L 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
Julia Usher Cookie Swap cookbook is great!! She explain everything very well. What else is really nice is she tells you in the back of the book where to purchase all the things you would need to get. I love having this as a reference. So many other book do not tell you where to find things. But Julia does. The cookie recipe are wonderful in looks and taste. The book is price right, where people do not have to spend a lot. Thanks for a great book Julia. I look forward to your next cookbook:).
Beautiful and Tasty January 10, 2010 Baking Mom (New England USA) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I got this book a few months ago and I've made a few of the cookies in the book - all of them AMAZING. I didn't make any of the "pretty" cookies because I just don't have the time, but there are several in the book that don't require the fancy decorations. Also, another review mentioned that most of the decorations are fondant - that is NOT true, most are royal icing. You can tell that Julia is very detail oriented in how she set up her book and just by the quality of the cookies and photographs. This books is great for the kitchen and the coffee table. I highly recommend giving it a try.
A new authority on cookie creation January 9, 2010 John P. Evans-Hylton (Virginia Beach, VA United States) 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
Julia Usher's "Cookie Swap" is a new authority on cookie creation.
The book is not only beautiful - it is practical. Filled with a large assortment of cookies for a number of occasions, the recipes are far from one dimensional. There are countless tips and techniques in the offerings which equate to cookie preparation well beyond the particular recipe that is being presented. The information is presented in easy-to-follow steps.
Well planned and thought-out and well executed, "Cookie Swap" is destined to become a must-have book for folks who want to move beyond basic peanut butter or chocolate chip cookies (not that there is anything wrong with those!)
lots of cookie recipes November 29, 2009 Cynthia Erickson (California) 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
I was looking for a book on decorating sugar cookies. Based on the cover, this is what I expected. This book had recipes for lots of different types of cookies. The photos were beautiful and the cookies looked yummy, but this book didn't fit my particular needs. It would be a good book if you wanted many recipes for different types of cookies.
