My Little Girl By Tim McGraw July 6, 2009 Araidna Mcknight (Fort Hood tx) This is a Great Book to buy a child for Christmas or for a birthday present. It is an excellent book.
Really Cute Book June 29, 2009 Brandy R. Ferrell Got this from my daughter to my husband for Father's Day. Such a cute book, he loved it! :)
Not Bad, but Not Great Either April 3, 2009 Jeremy Walker This short children's book is the story of a young girl and the day she spent with her father. After dreaming of what the day might involve, she is a little disappointed when she find out that there is nothing special planned. However, as the day progresses and she spends time with her dad doing nothing in particular, she finds that she is enjoying every moment with him.
This story, although geared towards young girls, is also targeted at fathers. The inescapable overtone throughout the book, and stated at the end by the authors, is to promote the importance of father-daughter bonding time. The message lets the reader (the father) know that in order for you to become a more vital part of your daughter's life, one of the best things you can do is to spend time with her.
This book is 100% geared towards fathers and their daughters. It would be virtually impossible to read it to your son, as the storyline and photos are geared towards girls in every way. It is also meant to be read by the fathers, as the story would lose its message a bit if the mother were to be reading it.
Overall, it was a nice little book, with a great message:
Dads need to spend time being with their girls and enjoying that time with them.
Cute February 13, 2009 Readers Favorite (Hawesville, KY USA) "Cute"
I always hesitate when music or movie stars write children's books. Being able to sing and act does not mean you can write. Well, Tim McGraw can do it all. Katie is to have a special day with her father. She has big expectations, and she is let down when she finds out that they are not doing much of anything on her special day. In the end, she realizes that her special day was perfectly filled with simple joys.
Parish and Isaac love this book. Parish likes the fact that Katie dresses quirkily and her hair is always coming out of her braid. That part does remind me of Parish. They both liked the animals. Parish and Isaac find the simple joy in swinging, playing with animals, and dancing--even without music, just like Katie.
I love the emphasis on simplicity. I strive to teach my children of the greatness of little things. Tim McGraw and Tom Douglas hit the nail on the head. The illustrations are full of life and action. This is a keeper, and it would make a great gift.
Beautiful message and illustrations February 6, 2009 Gary M. Branger My first book review for Thomas Nelson Publishing is the children's book written by Tim McGraw, "My Little Girl". This is a sweet picture book for fathers and daughters and is a nice early reader for those children maybe just a bit more advanced than a level 1 reader. However, it is a great bedtime story book for dads to read to their daughters. The illustrations are beautiful and the book has a great message about dads spending quality time with their daughters doing 'nothing-in-particular'. It is definitely one of those books I could easily have seen reading to my daughter many nights in a row. While I believe it will be a big draw for fans of Tim McGraw, this book speaks to all dads of daughters.
From a critical viewpoint I think the story starts out kind of odd, that is it feels like it could have started by stating what the story was about, spending the day with daddy. Yes it sort of says this, but it is not written very well. It feels uncomfortable when you read it. There is also a spot where they are spelling words from their vegetable soup that seemed out of place. I got the message and it was used well later, but again it felt a bit disjointed. These things wouldn't prevent me from purchasing for a friend because the message and the pictures are wonderful.
