Product Description
Tom Hanks introduces the rousing story of two inseparable friends and soldiers portrayed in the HBO miniseries Band of Brothers. William "Wild Bill" Guarnere and Edward "Babe" Heffron were among the first paratroopers of the U.S. Army, and their story is a tribute to the lasting bond forged between comrades in arms---and to all those who fought for freedom.

One of the Best Personal Reflections on the European Front in WWII February 19, 2010 David Rosales I recently read this book this week! I read it in 2 days actually. I had been watching the band of brothers DVD set for the third time through and felt like I wish I had some more material so then I started doing the research and BAM! Here is some of the best set of eyes you could get for the insite for the war! I really liked the fact that Wild Bill was in charge of so much and took care of so many people. You dont really get that from the movie so much its more from Winters perspective and then of Roe and Lipton with some others sprinkled in.
Babe Heffron was a character as well, I have to say that the horror he described at the concentration camp and that of the woman who caught his attention was striking to my mind. Here was a beautiful woman kept unlike the rest of the people (he mentions her hair even!) and then you find out why! The Nazis were some of the worst outfit of human beings and these boys gave their lives for the cause of freedom (not literally lives as they are still alive but definately you can tell they left something on the battlefield over there they will NEVER get back.) And so this is why I am recommending everyone who likes this sort of history read this work. This isnt some Scholar writing from a tactical point of view or a boring narration, this is 2 of Easy Company's surviving finest giving great insite into the war, their experience, and probably most importantly the bravery of those men who did in fact give there lives. Babe and Bill thanks for serving and fine job indeed.
Thanks for your service December 19, 2009 Michael Darragh First I'd like to thank Babe and Bill for their service. This oft times funny and very touching book is a wonderful addition to any collection on American History. It not only discusses combat but also gives you background on what America was like before and after the war. What these men shared in both combat and civilian life is a testimony to what America is all about and although I have to agree with Bill that we have become a less personal nation of people, most of America hasn't changed much. You saw that after the 911 attacks - how we set aside our petty day to day differences and were a nation undivided as these folks were during WWII.
The book is a quick read, even for somebody like me and very enjoyable. My only regret is that I didn't make it down for their book signing and get the chance to meet them and shake their hands. God bless them.
Felt like I was in the room listening November 30, 2009 K. Sharkey (Southeast Pa.) All of the Band of Brothers books are very good, and this one may be the best told except for the original one by Ambrose. The unigue thing about this book is the way the writer told the story of Bill Guarnere and Babe Heffron together. I don't know if the stories would have been as good if they told their stories in their own seperate books but the way it is told in this book together is excellent. From their beginnings in the streets of South Philly all the way through boot camp, the war and their lives after the war especially their close friendship. The story is told so well in their own words I actually felt like I was in their livingroom sharing a beer and listening to them tell their stories.
Brothers in Battle October 12, 2009 D. C. Melton (GRAY, TN USA) Great story of two friends brought together in WWII and remained close friends! Wonderful story!
Great book if you're a fan of Band of Brothers September 27, 2009 Chris Jones (Northern Indiana, USA) This book tells the story that by now may be familiar to fans of Band of Brothers. However, it gives us real insight from the perspectives of Bill Guarnere and Babe Heffron. These two remained best friends after the war, and their story is touching. Both are humble, frank, and honest when describing their experiences. A great read for anyone interested in learning more from these true heroes.
