    5 out of 5 stars "Batista's Talent / Batista y Su Talento"   August 7, 2005

"Batista's Talent / Batista y Su Talento" is a delightful story about a young boy's serendipitous journey of self-discovery and introspection. A youngster on the threshold of adolescence, Batista has a series of experiences that make him understand and appreciate his own artistic abilities. But, in the process, Batista also begins to understand a little bit more about the world around him and the personality traits that influence his actions.

I particularly enjoyed reading about Batista's interesting encounters with several of the unique characters and with his parents and friends who also play a role in the story. Batista, who is an Italian boy, also has a close relationship with his cat, Merlin.

The story is also very nice in that it is bilingual. All the odd-numbered pages are in Spanish and all the even-numbered pages are in English, and in most cases, you can crossreference the side-by-side versions to each other. This is a good way to learn more about a language.

This book can be most appreciated by children, adolescents and young adults. But I think adults can enjoy the story too. The author seems to have a very vivid imagination and her lovely illustrations are thought-provoking and give us a picture of what the characters look like.

I recommend this book for everyone.
