    Editorial Reviews:

    Product Description
Mackenzie Allen Philips' youngest daughter, Missy, has been abducted during a family vacation and evidence that she may have been brutally murdered is found in an abandoned shack deep in the Oregon wilderness. Four years later in the midst of his Great Sadness, Mack receives a suspicious note, apparently from God, inviting him back to that shack for a weekend. Against his better judgment he arrives at the shack on a wintry afternoon and walks back into his darkest nightmare. What he finds there will change Mack's world forever. In a world where religion seems to grow increasingly irrelevant "The Shack" wrestles with the timeless question, "Where is God in a world so filled with unspeakable pain?" The answers Mack gets will astound you and perhaps transform you as much as it did him. You'll want everyone you know to read this book!

1 out of 5 stars hated this book   November 23, 2008
everywhere i turned people were saying how great this book was. Finally went out and bought it and dove into it. As far as the story line goes, that was a big surprise--with a serial killer in the midst. not a problem with the story line at all. But when the author introduced Jesus, God and the Holy Spirit, I was simply appauled by the 'she God,' and the transgender used to describe our Holy Trinity. Still pushed 1/2 ways through but it just kept going against my spirit with calling God a 'she'. Could not go any further with it. Hated the undertones which made my spirit feel slimed. Threw it out and have told many not to buy it. Its like this: strictnine (poison) is made up of 98% water but its the 2 percent that will kill you. This book has so much blasphemy in it that would send a new Christian in the wrong direction. DO NOT BUY THIS BOOK!

5 out of 5 stars A Spiritual Encounter With the Trinity   November 23, 2008
A close relative was in the process of reading The Shack, by Wm. Paul Young, and showed such excitement over the book that I couldn't resist making the purchase. I approached reading it a bit critically upon learning that a major denominational leader was critical of the theological implications. However, putting theological implications aside as it is a work of fiction, I discovered it to be an exciting experience in reading, both intellectually as well as spiritually. Personally, I find little or no biblical conflict; quite the contrary. The author is successful in communicating the nature, personality, and purpose of each person of the Trinity and how each relates to God's loving creation. The personal message and impression I received was in how I relate to others; all are God's children wherever they are in their spiritual journey. It is truly an amazing and inspired work that will have a positive spiritual impact on one's understanding of God. Enjoy and be blessed. --Rev. Ray McPherson

5 out of 5 stars WONDERFUL AND THOUGHT PROVOKING   November 23, 2008
I loved this book! It was well-written, easy to read, and so thought-provoking. Everyone should take this journey with the main character, and we'd all be better in every way!

5 out of 5 stars Refreshing view of God   November 23, 2008
I had a hard time with God being represented as a woman in this book, and I don't agree that evil does not exist - but this was a book I could not put down until I was done reading it! If you have been giving yourself a hard time because you can't possibly live up to the standards the TV preachers put on you, or you put on yourself, this book gives a very refreshing view of God and how He sees us and loves us - for who we are exactly as we are. After reading it I find myself wanting to spend more time with God, not because I want to look good in His eyes and try to win points, but simply because He loves me - and wouldn't you want to spend more time with someone who truly loves you unconditionally?
