| Customer Reviews: Best Ever!!!!!! October 11, 2009 C. Sue Mack (Edwardsburg, MI United States) I often saw this book online selling for BIG bucks. I didn't understand. I actually got this book for a steal!!! Now I understand why it's priced so high. Had I known the treasures that are in this book, I would have paid those BIG bucks!!!! Well worth it. If you get the chance to buy it, do! The pictures are fabulous. I have over 250 Elvis books and this book truly does have RARE never before seen pictures. Every time a book review says that I say "yeah, yeah, they all say that". This book truly does have never before seen pictures. It does have a few you've seen before, but the ones that you haven't are LUSCIOUS!!!! BUY IT!!!!
Sean Shaver: A Credit to Elvis Fans January 14, 2003 Peter J Gael (Dubuque, Iowa United States) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Sean Shaver was Elvis' unofficial official photographer. He was never on the payroll but attended many of Elvis' concerts in the 70's and followed him around at his homes. Don't get the idea that Sean was some kind of stalker- far from it. By his own estimation Sean took about 80,000 photos and this is the first of 8 books that put them together. The text is written by Hal Noland and his primary sources were Charlie Hodge, Dick Grob, and Billy Smith, 3 men who all worked with Elvis for many years. Smith is even Elvis' cousin. Shaver provided the photographs and they are the best part of this book. Not only did Sean take pictures, he has bought and traded for others and some of those appear here too. You get everything from candids from the 40's and 50's to the last concert in 1977. While not the biggest of Sean's books it is probably the most comprehensive. If you want big, check out the Elvis Book series. (They weigh 7 or 8 pounds and are huge). The Life of Elvis Presley won't educate you if you are a long time fan but that isn't the point of this book. It is a puff piece with lost of good stories and tons of great pictures. ...
The Best Elvis book ever December 23, 2002 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I've read them all and collect only the best. This is the first book by Sean Shaver and is called the Elvis Bible by the fans. This hardback book came out in 1979. Hundreds of books about Elvis have followed but none come close. There are almost 1,000 color photos in this book and it is printed on glossy paper. If my house catches on fire I will grab this on the way out. It has been out of print for two decades and is hard to find but grab it at any price if you can find one. I understand brand new copies can be obtained from Sean if you can find him.
