    3 out of 5 stars beginner   April 9, 2008
This book is for beginners. You will not learn any hendrix songs from it. It does show a few riffs from some of his songs and the star spangled banner in E major (how jimmi played it). I guess I rate this book low because I thought it was more advanced but if you are very new to guitar this book is good. I thought this book would be like the (In Deep With Hendrix book) which is great, but it is just a beginner book.

2 out of 5 stars Every wonder why no volume @"   December 8, 2006
Have you ever wonder why there is no volume tow or three of this book? There is no there. The book makes a promise and then doesn't deliver. The stuff in this book is so basic and easy that there is no way you will play like Jimi when you get through it. Very thin stuff and material. Song are not really arranged. Get if for a joke or for a really small kid, but if you want to get serious get something else.

5 out of 5 stars This is just what I needed!!!   May 30, 2006
Wow, this book is awesome! (Experience Hendrix Beginning Guitar Method Book 1) It really lays out the first stages of playing guitar using the music of Jimi Hendrix. Other method books I've checked out are very dry and not entertaining and you end up learning lame tunes like Aura Lee, Skip to My Lou, Mary Had A Little Lamb... I want to show my friends I can rock, not be embarrassed by playing lame tunes, "Hey Dave, check out the way I can jam on Skip to My Lou"... NOT.

This book allows the beginner to learn how to play Jimi riffs while learning the basics of the guitar, music theory, scales,... The guitar really makes sense to me now and I'm excited about learning more. I have hope knowing "I CAN REALLY DO THIS!!!"

The CD really helped me figure out the riffs, scales, and instructions. It was like having a guitar teacher there in the room showing me how to play, very cool!

I read the review where the one guy from Florida bashes the book, but it's pretty obvious he has been playing guitar for awhile and didn't read "Beginning Guitar Method" "BOOK 1". Come on dude, read the title before you buy something. J

1 out of 5 stars Just plain bad!   August 11, 2005

I really hate to be so critical and I am usually not one to write negative reviews, I guess every product like this has its place, but this book is just plain horrible. Where do I start?

First off, the cd sounds like it was recorded in a basement somewhere, it is really poor quality, and the instructor keeps talking while he is playing the examples and it really interferes with being able to hear it.

Second, I think that the content is not as advertised. I was expecting to see full tab for some Hendrix songs in here along the way and some instruction on how to play them, with maybe some lead tracks slowed down to better understand them. This was not the case. It only shows a few little elementary examples and that is it. There are no full tabbed songs and examples here. There are a few side notes here and there that try to tie in Hendrix techniques, but fail pretty bad in my opinion. The coverage of the major scale and other techniques is really bad and could confuse a lot of people. There are way better resources on the Internet for free, so why pay for this very thin, very bad cd and book just because Hendrix is on the cover?

Bottom line is this: This is a very very elementary level, poorly written book about guitar theory with Jimi Hendrix on the cover, that is about it. Save your money and learn a lot more on the Internet for free. Just search for guitar theory on Google.com and you will see. If you want to actually learn some Hendrix songs and techniques I would suggest looking into Hal Leonard's Jimi Hendrix - Signature Licks book. It has fully tabbed songs along with regular and slow speed examples.

5 out of 5 stars A great book for beginners   December 2, 2002

This is a great book for beginners (4.5*). While it will not teach you everying, it covers most of the basics(although the minor pentatonic scale box is conspicuously absent) and surprisingly concisely. It is very attractively formated and includes a useful CD. By focusing on the music of well known Jimi Hendrix tracks the beginner can feel real meaningful progress from the start. There is also a good website associated with this book. I wish I had this book when I first started! This book alone is a good starting point and should provide inspiration -- I would also recommend David Meads excellent beginners guide to accompany this and fill in the gaps. By the way there is a more advanced Jimi Hendrix follow on to this book by the same author but I think it comes as a 2 video set possibly with a book attached -- I have not tried that (yet) so I cannot comment on its value.]
