Dream Theater and the Mind of Don Ray Jr. November 17, 2001 Don Ray (AZ) 0 out of 16 found this review helpful
When I first opened the book, I was lost within the pages immediately. I found myself turning the pages quickly, but didn't know if this was a good reaction. I was searching for truth and knowledge about infinity. Since the band, Dream Theater, is one of my favorites, I thought this book had to be great! I was disappointed by the lack of aesthetics that would be expected from a book like this. The statement, "And we all die young" (oh, was that THIS book?) was kinda biased. I didn't really get what I was searching for from this book. Although, I must say it was very well written, but I think a bit more time and effort could have been added to the content. It should contain more info about how to obtain 'infinity'!I was left feeling empty and numb after finishing the book. Maybe that was the goal of the writers--to leave me with a sense of numbness, which equals 'Infinity'. Well done.
Something for the newer guitarists June 23, 2000 Brian (US) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
Great album and even better TAB book. This was edited by John Petrucci, so what's in this book is what he plays and how he plays it. This album has less of the 64-th note solos for 20 pages, so there is a lot more us learning guitarists can play with. A definite plus
Guitar Transcriptions and Notation for DT's latest album January 20, 1999 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
A must have for any DT fan that has some talent and ambition. This album is a bit more 'practical' for younger musicians wanting to learn a bit more on Petrucci's style and licks. The guitar parts are somewhat toned down and less 'showy' than those on previous DT albums, but the songs presented here are WELL worth the book.
