Fairly happy January 6, 2009 K. Rozenboom Shipping was quick, but the book wasn't in as good of shape as I was hoping, which may have been due to the poor packaging/mailing.
My pick-me-up September 15, 2008 S. Harris (California) This is the book I pull out when I'm feeling particularly down on my creative endeavors. It's not anything earth-shattering, and it's hardly going to change the world, but the vast majority of the stories in this - all very short and incredibly easy to read - are the kind of uplifting reminders we need that good things can happen to people. American Idol might be criticized for being commercial, or talentless, or any of a number of derogatory things, but the truth of the matter is, it makes a difference in a lot of people's lives. It's an ideal of what the American Dream always used to be, and in today's cynical world, it's very easy to forget that. So I keep my copy tucked away in my nightstand, to pull out on those occasions when I need to be cheered up. Because I'm not ashamed to admit that it does just that.
This is a goof, right? August 23, 2008 Kavity Killer (denver, colorado United States) 4 out of 5 found this review helpful
A perfect storm of base American comercialism: Shallow evangelical Christianity, bad pop music where every pre-teen wants to sing like Mariah Carey, and feel good self help. Wish I'd thought of it first. Wait, I've got one. Remember the Prayer of Jabez books that were so popular about three years ago? How about the Prayer of Miley Cyrus. If you say this prayer while listening to Hannah Montana, errr...you'll get rich. ya, that's the ticket.
Great Book May 29, 2008 This is the best book ever because it tells the stories of real people that went on American Idol like Jordan Sparks! Also, it tells all the good and bad things they had to go through to get on the show. In one of the people's story, it said that both parents were deaf and whenever that person sang in front of people the parents only saw how excited they were for that person. That is how they could tell she was good. Some stories are so sad that they will actually make you cry, I did. Also, I think this book is cool because it's all true.
loved this book!!! May 27, 2008 Robert K. West My friend and I traded books and I couldn't put this one down!!! I have never seen American Idol and Chicken Soup for the American Idol soul helped me learn a little bit about it. I was inspired by each story to do my very best, even after I fail. Some of the people in this book failed several times before they finally made it past even one round or became an Idol. If you fail you can sulk around for like the next month or you can get back up on your feet and try again like some of the Idols did. So I learned to try until you succeed even though I've heard this like 5 millon times this really hit home.
