This book presents Janet Jackson's life from her early childhood times all the way until her album titled, janet.. It has exclusive details not only on her but on the entire Jackson family. The reader who puts this book to read slowly may find a desire to keep going non-stop as it has much "insider" information not seen on television, videos, or interviews. While it is a strictly unauthorized biography by Bart Andrews with J. Randy Taraborrelli nothing is a glossed up "perfect princess" description of Janet. It's more of a Janet who went through a turmoil of heat, conflicts, struggles, and pains that overcame it all to explode as a smashing strong, independent woman, artist, and actress! From her personal relationships, marriage, and family to her business it's all one complete biography to enjoy!
For anybody desiring to know about others in the Jackson family it's here. From the family fights, arguing, back-stabbing to the great "stick-together" times. While many books paint the picture of a super star with a few bumps on the road, this author does a 180 to present the "bare" raw untold of secrets few dare to present. Never one to be on the gossip type page, I did find the information very useful to visualize the strength of Janet Jackson to fight tooth and nail, and sweat hard for the struggle to reach her dreams! While other artists would have their typical teenage problems, this by far is not the case for Janet. It has her problems with LeToya [cat fights], marriage to James DeBarge control issues with dad [Joseph], relationship with René Elizondo, acquaintance with Tupac, love moments that no one knows, Bobby Brown's attraction to her and much more!
The music and acting career of Janet Jackson is very much explained with album ranks, video production details, and how she got there. It explains how she met Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis, her first 2 beginning albums that were not the best, her deal with Virgin Records, and more exclusives. Each album from the very first 2 Janet Jackson, Dream Street, to Control, Rhythm Nation 1814 and janet.. Her close relationship with Michael Jackson is "extremely" discussed with lots of information on Michael's trials, journeys, and album sales, ranks, videos, and critics. LeToya is also talked about throughout the entire book as being the black-sheep yet a victim at times. Her brothers and sisters were all mentioned, explored, and discussed thoroughly. The author leaves nothing out totally increasing the desire to keep reading without stopping. By the end it felt almost like a feeling to want to keep reading to know what happens next. This was exceptionally done with the readers entertainment in mind but more than anything to provide the "most" information as possible to create a full complete biography unlike other novice writers who present the superficial type biographies.
If I had to choose one of my favorite books then this would be on the top. However, many die-hard fans may get offended that extremely intimate personal details were included thus uncovering Janet on many different levels. Truth be told, everything is done with nothing but respect toward Janet and her family as there are no bashing type comments or negative remarks on the difficulties presented or how Janet handled them. On the contrary, Janet was described as "Totally in control of her life, Janet Jackson has rebuilt herself through hard work and discipline."
