Product Description Mel Hawthorne s prospects with Sarah Gavin appear slim, particularly once her fiancé announces his pharmaceutical firm has cured cancer despite knowing the drug's side effects. While washing windows at a Philadelphia building, Mel witnesses a murder, but unfortunately the police can't find a body nor any evidence of foul play. Mel races to solve the alleged crime, but what Sarah s fiancé doesn t realize is that concealing the drug s side effects immediately sparked a twist of fate that s been smoldering for years, leaving a trail of evidence that no one but Mel and his closest cohorts cares enough about to pursue.

When I fall for a good read... March 7, 2008 Rebecca Lerwill (Utah, U.S.A.) ...I'm usually easily entertained.
And Barb McClatchy's "When I Fall" is a very entertaining piece of literature;
Our protagonist, Mel, certainly at life's odds with the job of a window washer, has seen some rather delicate situations during his career. But when his dangling job puts him in the position as the eye witness of a murder way above the streets of Philadelphia, his easy going demeanor kicks into high gear and he is desperate to find the killer.
But wait - no body, no murder, right?
The local police departments as well as the FBI shake their heads when Mel tries to get their attention. Without any proof or even a victim, Mel has no choice but to team up with his Irish pal Liam and one homicide Detective whose hands are bound due to some messy politics. Their frantic search through the darkest corners of a drug infested Philadelphia neighborhood begins and quickly Mel comes across some mysterious findings which involve his past flame, Sarah, and her fiancé, Dean, who is a rising star within the pharmaceutical industry, a womanizer, and seems to be linked to some pretty shady business.
Once the murderer realizes that Mel is on his tracks and once Mel figures out that Sarah might be in the company of the killer, Mel's up against the clock with no time to spare.
"When I Fall" is a fast paced thriller with what I call a `sexy undertone'. I very much enjoyed how McClatchy weaved corporate America issues and blue collar life (and death) together and spun it into a believable plot of high industrial politics, cover-ups, and murder.
Some editing and type-setting issues turn this five star novel into a four star, but overall I very much recommend this book and consider it a fun and thrilling page turner.

please edit. January 7, 2008 Barb (Peru, Indiana USA) This is a good book, but it needs editing. It has lots of either missing words or wrong word use. This is the problem with "Spell Check".
Let this book fall into your hands August 19, 2007 ellen (Atlanta, Georgia USA) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
Barb McClatchy has delivered a taut story about a window washer, Mel who meets the girl he has 'fallen for' (Sarah) - turns out she's engaged to a guy on the fast track to pharmaceutical history - his company is claming there is a medication that cures cancer - But things aren't what they seem... While on the job, Mel witnesses a murder of a young woman, and goes about trying to find details, only to be told details are being hushed up - Mel, a man of integrity, and his friend Liam, try to unravel this mystery. Along the way Sarah, gets to see it's not the job that makes the man nor his integrity, and is definitely her journey toward that too.
Character developement is spot on, and you care about what happens during the course of this book.
A very interesting read.

A great book that is a page turner and it was hard to put down at night. I enjoyed it and would recommend it to anyone that like Grisham, Mary Higgins Clark, and other authors of that genre.
