Product Description
Who hasn’t struggled at times with foot–in–mouth disease? Certified behavioral consultant Deborah Pegues knows how easily a slip of the tongue can cause problems in personal and in business relationships. That is why she has put together a 30–day devotional to help readers tame that unruly member and turn it into an asset. Readers will learn to - stop saying the wrong thing at the wrong time in the wrong way
- learn to use words that build others up
- avoid the pitfalls and consequences of lies, flattery, and exaggerations
Short stories, anecdotes, soul–searching questions, and scripturally based personal affirmations combine to make each chapter tongue–and–life–changing.

A family project July 2, 2009 Someone's Mom (Chesapeake, VA) We purchased this book after my son saw it referenced in "the unlikely disciple", a book about a secular student who spends a semester at Liberty University in Virginia. In my family, we're just a bunch of hotheads -- although we try to live the Christian life, we seem to have a terrible dynamic in our household, where everyone says whatever comes into their head, and seldom are very good about pausing to consider the effects of our words. This book is extremely PRACTICAL! It's not about theory but about practical situations in which all of us find ourselves in which we might gossip, lie, slander, exaggerate and so forth. Actually, from the comments in "the unlikely disciple" we expected it to have more about eliminating cursing from one's vocabulary, but the emphasis is much broader. Also, it's nicely enhanced with bible quotes and helps you to realize how much the Bible actually has to say about governing your speech and considering the effects of your words. It also explains how Jesus himself responded to tricky situations where others might have attempted to cause Him to sin through His words. We're trying to do one chapter every day as a family. We'll let you know how it goes!
Cuts right to the underlying motivations July 2, 2009 Valerie (Washington State) This book is very easy to understand and the author gets to the heart of the issues. I get the sense that the author took some Bible verses out of context to "back up" her points, but I still feel her points are right on. I will be reading this one many times!
30 day to taming your tongue February 19, 2009 R. P. Perryman (Fort Worth, TX) This book is growing me in my walk with the Lord. And is changing who I am as a Parent.
God's truth is always good November 27, 2008 Carl Ratcliffe 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This book will step on a lot of toes. All of us need to be renminded how destructive our tougue can be & how often we fail to use it in a good way.
What we say matters - good overview October 5, 2008 L. Capell (Peachtree City, GA USA) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
If you have ever offended someone (or been hurt by someone's words), or caught yourself lying to benefit yourself (or watched someone else do it), or manipulated/intimidated someone to get your way (or been the victim of the same), you realize the power of the tongue. What we say matters. As a Christ-follower, I want to encourage, edify and comfort others, not harm them. Therefore, I needed to know where I missed the mark in my speech. If the Holy Spirit is convicting you of the need to leash your own tongue, this book is a good beginning. Why? Because it is a quick-and-easy read, well-organized in palatable bites, and gives a good overview of the different kinds of damage our tongues can do, not only to others, but also to ourselves. When you finish the book, you can pick the area you want to study and work on it in more depth - there are many books out there on this subject. And, as you become more aware of these kinds of blunders with your tongue, you may be pleasantly surprised to find that you tend to make them less often until the blunders only happen rarely. I recommend you also search out the quoted Bible verses in your own Bible to read them in context. You may be surprised at what The Holy Spirit reveals to you about yourself.
